I am in trouble, was my next thought.

Then there was no more time.

As Dr. Lawson started around the bed, I tried going across it in hopes I could get to the door, but he changed course, and the next thing I knew he had tackled me and had me pinned beneath him on the bed. His knees were on each side of me, squeezing me in their unrelenting grip, and his hands clutched me like a vice, holding each of mine. His eyes held no remorse and a sinful, crazed look, as he took me in from head to toes.

I bucked, screamed, twisted, and pushed, to no avail.

Suddenly, one hand was released, but within a second his hand was on the fabric on my shirt, ripping it off my body, exposing the top half of me with no barrier to cover me from his predatory eyes. Crying out, I pleaded with him to stop.

“Oh my God, please stop, please!”

He wasn’t listening.

“What did I tell you? Don’t fight it,” he said, almost robotically, like a human wasn’t even present.

To me, he wasn’t human at all. Who could do something like this? A monster, that was who.

Someone help me, I need help!

“No, get off me now!” I screamed again, twisting more, trying to stay out of his reach. With my free hand, I hit, punched, slapped, and did everything I could, yet it didn’t seem to make a difference. He weighed so much more than me and was so much stronger.

When his hand slid to the waistband of my pants, I couldn’t hold back the tears any longer, and there was something else that I wasn’t going to be able to contain as well. When I got stressed, it seemed to trigger my seizures and every emotion in me right now was pouring out every pore in my body. As his hand started to pull down my pajama bottoms, I gave one last-ditch effort to move him off me.

He must have thought he had won because his knees were not holding me as tight and as I flipped sideways, catching him off guard, we both tumbled to the floor. Crawling as fast as I could toward the door, I grabbed the door handle, thinking I had won, but he grabbed my ankle before I could get out. What I had managed to do was twist the knob and the door opened a little.

Everything next moved at lightning speed, and rapidly had me spinning out of control, into the darkness I didn't want to succumb to. Having your choices taken from you and no control over what will happen, is one of the worst feelings ever.

Hands around my middle now, I was flipped over to my back, my head bouncing off the floor, a scream leaving my lips as dizziness set in and my vision started to lose focus. Just before the blackness took hold, I saw the door spring open and Ash jumping through the air. Along with that, I heard a voice that long ago I had needed desperately, and she was here with me again more than ready to save me.

“Fuck no, you asshole,” my fierce friend’s voice rang out.

Then the black hole swallowed me up.

Gyth

I was getting antsy.

The monthly meeting was running longer than I hoped, as we went over everything, and I just wanted to get to my girl. Not wanting her to think that I forgot about her and that everything was okay, I excused myself to give her a call and let her know it shouldn’t be too much longer and that I would be there soon.

“I need to call Jurnee too,” Braxton commented.

Kace laughed, deciding to add his two cents about us being mushy and whipped. We knew he was just teasing and didn’t take offense. I threw him the finger and grabbed my cell. That is when I saw a text from Summer that had my senses on high alert. She’d said she was okay, but I had a bad feeling.

Turning to the guys, I looked over and Kace immediately picked up on the unease etched across my face and the tension coming from my body language.

Standing abruptly, he asked, “What the hell is wrong?”

Braxton, who was over in the corner of the room, quickly turned at Kace’s question and his eyes burned into mine, like a laser. He told Jurnee he would call her back and from the sound of it, his woman was picking up on something too. I could hear her yelling at him, not to hang up that phone or else. I shouldn’t have been able to laugh at that moment, but quiet, little, Jurnee sounded downright ferocious, and it was a little funny.

So doing as his wife said, he stayed on the line, waiting for my response. Just as I was about to tell them about the text, I noticed there was a voicemail. Throwing up my hand to hold them off, I pushed the button to listen.

My blood ran cold as the recording played.

I was out the door in two seconds flat, sprinting toward where my truck was parked at the front of the building. No time to waste explaining things to the guys, all I said was, Summer’s house. We had worked together a long time and I knew they wouldn’t be far behind.

Dialing Summer’s phone over and over as I drove and finding her phone going straight to voicemail, made the drive the longest in history. Scared out of my mind that something had happened to her and not knowing what I would find when I reached the house was driving me insane. As I sped down the road, I saw lights flash behind me and contemplated my actions for about two seconds, before I pushed my foot on the gas pedal to the floor.

Only a few minutes out from getting to Summer, I wasn’t pulling over and the cop could just follow me there.
