What was up with the growling today? Did he think he was a fucking bear or something, geez? “It is none of your damn business, now give it back.” I started toward him, but with the flowers in my hands, I couldn’t take the card back and didn’t think he would let me.

Ignoring me, he read the card out loud.

“Your words speak to me. I hope these find you well. I shall see you soon.”

As the last word left his mouth, a shiver went through my entire body and I dropped the flowers inside the foyer where I stood. Glass shattered around my bare feet, as the crystal-type glass vase hit the wooden floor.God this is escalating.

Landon was once again at my side and he scooped me up in his arms, pulling me from the pool of glass. He took me over to the living room and sat me down on the couch as he pulled his phone from his jean pocket.

“Hey, I think you need to get over to your sister's house right away and take a look at the gift that was just sent to her.” It was obvious he was talking to Braxton even though I couldn’t hear the other side of the conversation. “Yeah, I will be here. See you soon,” he added.

Dropping to his knees in front of me for a second time that day, he plunked each of my feet in his hand one at a time, examining them.

Then frowning, he let the second one drop and rose to his feet. “Stay here, you got a cut on one of your heels and I am going to grab some stuff to clean and bandage it”. Then he was gone.

I sat stunned, wondering who the hell was sending me notes and fucking flowers. I’d been getting notes more frequently over the last month, but this was the first time I had gotten anything else. The odd thing about the letters was that they seemed to be different. Sometimes they seemed creepy and stalkerish, while other times they seemed pissed off with hate. It was very confusing.

They can stop at any time. I am too busy for this shit.

Landon was back, plopping his butt on the coffee table in front of me this time, as he set the first aid items on the table beside him. Once again, he lifted my foot into his hands. My eyes took in what he had in his hand and seeing that he had rubbing alcohol I tried pulling my foot from his grip.

“Hold still woman, it needs to be cleaned. Don’t be a baby.”

“You did not just call me a baby,” I said lamely with no bite. I was overwhelmed with what had just happened and my foot was starting to sting. Landon didn’t comment as he set the bottle down and looked closer at my foot, frowning.

The next thing I knew, he was pulling a good size piece of glass from my foot.

“Ouch!” I yelled, glaring at him.

Ignoring me he grabbed the bottle again and a bunch of cotton balls. Tipping the bottle up and dousing the cotton in his hand, he grabbed my foot that now laid in his lap and swiped the soft cotton balls over the area. But the shit stung like a mother.

“What the hell!” I screamed, trying once again to pull my foot from his grasp. He wasn’t having it and pulled it closer to his face as he leaned down. Then looking me in the eye, Landon softly blew his cool breath on the area that stung. My gaze locked with his and once again I was thrown back into old memories of when I was a young teenager and he had done the same thing. But then, it was innocent. Sitting there in my house all these years later, the look on his face held no innocence at all.

Fuck.

The sound of feet pounding up the porch steps and descending upon the door that still had not been closed, broke the connection. It was a damn good thing. Well maybe. I had needed to deal with my brother and the army he brought along, straggling in behind him.

Whoever said payback was a bitch was right. I seem to remember calling this same group when Summer had an issue not so long ago and now it was my turn, because not only had Kace come, but somehow, they had gotten Gyth and Summer to tag along, leaving me to believe that Jurnee wouldn’t be too far behind.

“I don’t think bringing everyone was necessary over a vase of flowers,” I said to my brother as he approached with a dirty look on his face.

“You’re obviously not thinking or using your head when it comes to taking this shit seriously,” Braxton said to me.

Dropping my foot and standing, Landon went toe to toe with my brother. Holy shit it was a crazy thing to do, but he didn’t seem intimidated at all by my brother's larger presence.

“Watch it. I didn’t ask you here to insult your sister and you won’t do it again!” Landon told Braxton with a world of authority. If looks could kill, they’d both would have died that day.

“Hey, we are not here to start a war. I came to help Alley and that is why you are both here. So nobody is throwing punches on my watch,” Kace said as he squeezed between them.

As they worked that out, Summer had placed herself beside me on the couch. Ash followed her and laid her head on my knee as though she knew I needed the comforting. She was amazing and I totally wanted a dog one day after spending so much time with her.

“Hey girl,” Summer said softly and then paused before continuing. “Got yourself a stalker like me, huh?” she asked me, even though she was truly not waiting for an answer. She just kept on. “They suck, but we will figure this out and keep you safe.” As she finished just as I had suspected, Jurnee ran through the door, minus the kids.

“Shit, you scared me!” she exclaimed, running for the couch and placing herself on the other side of me. “It was a good thing I was still at my parents' house picking up the kids when Summer called because I got to leave them there and run over here faster,” she rambled on out of breath.

This was exactly why I had been keeping most of this shit under wraps. I hadn’t wanted to cause a stir in everyone’s daily lives but look at us now. If Landon hadn’t shown up, he wouldn’t have been with me when the flowers arrived, and I wouldn’t have a bunch of worried people gathered around me looking frazzled.

“We need to go over what happened and then call my friend over at the police station,” I heard Gyth say from behind me. I knew I should take this seriously, especially after what Summer recently went through herself, but I just wanted it to go away.
