As the crazy woman took a couple of steps closer, I felt my girls flank each side of me. They had my six and I had theirs, that's what friends were for. So even while I wasn’t sure what the hell was about to go down, I wasn’t scared with them standing next to me.

“Lady, I don’t know what your problem is, but it isn’t a good day to be messing with me!” I told her, angrily.

Not that any day would be a good day, I didn’t stand for this shit or someone putting their hands on me as she had, but I had enough on my plate right now with my emotions running so high.

“No, you,” she spat. “You don’t want to be fucking with me or fucking my husband for that matter!” Our audience was getting bigger as she continued to scream.

Hopefully security would come because this woman wasloca. Fucking her husband, was she stupid? I hadn’t gotten laid in years until recently and it sure as hell wasn’t by someone else’s man. I heard both girls gasp at her comment and then Summer started laughing.

Maybe it was my bestie that was nuts because I wasn’t sure what was so funny. Though I found out soon enough. I turned to look at Summer as she spoke.

“You are insane, lady. My friend wouldn’t touch your husband with a ten-foot pole. I don’t know who the hell he is, but my girl here,” she said pointing at me, “sure as hell wasn’t with him.”

Summer might be laughing at the insanity of her insinuating I was having some love affair with someone I didn’t even know, but her face said she was pissed off.

Just then a man came running up into the situation and I thought,Oh good someone is here to help, but I was dead wrong. The shit got even crazier.

“Leave her alone, Veronica!” the man yelled.

Now looking at the woman in front of me and the man next to her, I was completely perplexed at who these nutty people were, but a thought niggled at me before finally dawning.

“You guys are the ones that have been sending me notes, flowers, and shit, along with threats, aren’t you?”

The looney bitch turned her deranged eyes toward the man, and she flipped out on him about sending me flowers and notes. They had it out right there for everyone to see. He told her they were separated, which she insisted was my fault. He told her it was her own fault that they were not together and that he liked my books because they gave him hope of something real and he felt like I was speaking to him.

So, in other words, he was insane too, but by the end of it, he seemed kind of harmless. As I said before, a little creepy, but most likely not a threat. His soon-to-be ex-wife though, there was something to be said about her. The woman was unhinged and a few marbles short at the moment.

Minutes later, security arrived, the police were called and before I knew it, somehow Landon and all the guys had rushed to the mall. My girls were tattletales, but I know they did it because they loved me.

Landon was in full protective mode, attached to me at the hip. He was also in lawyer mode, throwing around all his law garble and asking if I wanted to press charges, even before the cops could get that far. During the whole thing it was clear just how smart Landon was, that being an attorney was in his blood, and it was obvious a piece of him liked it. But I also knew his heart ached to use his drawing talent. Maybe there was a way to do both?

I finished speaking with the police and the husband-and-wife duo were taken in for questioning, but nothing they did would get them in too much trouble, if any at all. I hoped when it was all said and done, it would at least stop the notes and gifts. I declined to press charges and just wanted it to go away.

They could take their quarrel somewhere else. I didn’t want any part of it.

After the crowd dispersed, the cops had gone, and taken the nut jobs with them, I stood with my pack. That is what they were like, a pack of wolves who ran together, protected one another and looked danger in the eye when it meant one of their own was in need.

Summer and Jurnee moved in closer, grabbing me and hugging me close. I was shocked Landon even moved back to let them near me the way he had been acting since he got there. The guys, even Kace, waited for us girls to talk. I hoped one day Kace would have a woman to wait for too. I was sure he would be just as crazy protective as the other guys when he did.

“Looks like you will be riding home with Landon,” Jurnee whispered. “Go blow off some steam the good way,” she added.

“If you say honeypot again, I am going to disown you,” Summer said quietly.

I was glad they were not announcing this shit to the world or even for Landon to hear.

Jurnee giggled. “I didn’t have to say it,youdid.”

Laughter burst free. I almost couldn’t stop it and was lucky I didn’t sink to the floor in hysterics after the day I had.

“Seriously, Alley,” Jurnee whispered again. “Give Landon a chance. You both deserve it.”

“Ditto,” Summer added. Something we all tended to say to each other when we agreed with what one or the other of us had told each other.

Letting out a sigh I felt my body relax and I knew then I was going to give us another chance.

At that moment, my mind, heart, and soul all synced, and were all on the same page.
