“Of course,” he said, then he leaned in to kiss me.

My hand flew to my mouth and his lips hit the back of my hand. “Need to brush,” I mumbled. For heaven's sakes, I had just been throwing up.

Prying my fingers away from my face, Landon chuckled. “I am going to kiss you.” And then did exactly that before heading downstairs.

“That man has it bad,” Jurnee teased.

“Oh hush,” I told her but was smiling at her words as I headed toward the master bedroom where Summer was.

When I walked into the room, I gasped at the sight.

My best friend looked so damn beautiful.

* * *

“Gyth is goingto lose his shit when he sees you,” I told Summer.

Her eyes twinkled and her whole face lit up with happiness. “I’m getting married,” she chanted.

It was the cutest thing to see her so giddy. Summer had always been the cheerful one of the three of us friends, but when she started struggling more with her sickness some of that had diminished. But then Gyth planted himself in her life and even with her struggles, our girl’s perky behavior started to come back.

Just as Summer started to head toward me, the look in her eyes changing to concern as she took me in, I felt a tug on my pant leg and looked down to see Embry looking up at me.

“Mommy was sick like you when she was pregnant with my brother.”

Leave it to my niece.

Embry had impeccable timing and was too damn observant for her age. If confirmed, everyone downstairs might know in a matter of a minute. Her mom seemed to understand that too.

I looked up and into Summer’s wide eyes. She knew Embry was on to something. Then Jurnee rushed over and deterred her daughter as she always did by giving her another task once again.

“Can you go see if Grandma needs help with your brother for Mommy?” she asked Embry sweetly and the little one was off like a shot.

“You betcha!” she yelled as she ran from the room.

And then in the next second Summer’s arms were wrapped around me. “I can’t believe it. A baby,” she whispered next to my ear.

When she pulled back, the mega-watt grin on her face was a bit contagious. These girls were making it damn hard to not be excited. But I didn’t think the worry would ever leave.

There were very few things I was scared of but letting Landon or this baby into my heart was one, and yet losing him or our child was another. What the hell was I supposed to do?

“Embrace it all,” Summer said, looking at me as if she knew the turmoil going through my mind. “You have weathered the storm and now it is time to enjoy the life you were meant to have.”

My stomach knotted, that same old worry never quite going away.

“I’m trying,” I told her. “Now enough about this, I need to hurry and get ready. This is your day, and it is about you.”

She started to open her mouth, no doubt to argue with me on the subject, but I wasn’t having it and cut her off. There would be time to talk about stuff later.

“Don’t argue with me and let me get dressed or I won’t be looking too good in any of your wedding pictures.”

“Oh please, you’re always beautiful,” Summer said. Then she reached out and grabbed Jurnee’s hand and pulled her to us. “Both of you are and I am so damn happy you are here with me.” Tears gathered in her eyes and the waterworks started all around.

We cried, we hugged, and we laughed.

And then we got ready for Summer’s magical day.
