“You do know whatever you had with my brother, you can get back,” she stated matter-of-factly as if it was that easy. If it was, he and I would never have been apart, but there were too many things forbidding us from the start to truly have a real shot at something great. And obstacles along the road to giving it a try ruined it for good.

“It can’t happen,” I told her, my tone coming out melancholy. Sometimes no matter how hard I tried, I just couldn’t keep the sadness at bay. I needed one of my famous subject changes and I hoped to God it worked this time as usual. “You look nice, your man taking you out somewhere besides his bed tonight?” I teased.

“Don’t think I don’t know what you just did,” she replied, just as I heard the front door open and shut. “We will talk later.”

“Yay me,” I said sarcastically.

“Don’t be a smart ass.” Summer walked over, and leaned down, giving me a quick hug.

“Yes, ma’am,” I said as I saluted her. She didn’t say anything else because Gyth had wandered in and found us.

“Hey, Sunshine, are you ready to go? Hi, Alley, writing more smut?” he said, addressing us both at the same time.

Summer smiled at her beast of a man like he had jumped into the damn sky and hung her the moon. I would like to say I hated it, but I loved this for my friend, and I also got a lot of book inspiration between her and Jurnee’s relationships.

“You know me, I’m the smut queen,” I replied to Gyth. He gave me a wicked smile that I knew probably had my friend about to run for her room to change the now damp panties she was wearing.

Gyth was seriously one hot male specimen, he just wasn’t my type so he did not affect me the same way he did Summer. Which was a damn good thing, because the second he had laid eyes on my friend, nobody else had existed for him but her in that way.

I had one type and it was everything I never thought I would want until it was too late, and I was a goner. Now I probably would just write romance and never have it in real life again.

“I’m ready,” Summer chirped happily to Gyth, dragging me out of my weepy thoughts.

I need to get a hold of myself and stop this shit. It is time to toughen up.

Last week next to Landon's car caught me off guard, causing old feelings to swarm through me again, but the only place for those was in the past.

“Go you two, have fun, I have writing to do,” I told them, shooing them with my hand toward the door.

“Don’t work too hard and I will see you tomorrow,” Summer told me as she walked over to her man and he wrapped an arm around her waist, pulling her close. “Oh, I almost forgot...” She turned her head to look at me again. “Ash is sleeping on the couch, but we are taking her with us. Just so you know. And keep the door locked,” she added in a stern voice.

I just rolled my eyes as she turned to leave.

“Bye, Alley,” Gyth said. I mumbled a goodbye and they both turned and headed out.

I sat there for a moment as I heard the door open and close, thinking about how weird it was going to be when Summer moved in with Gyth permanently after they got married. She stayed over at his house a lot now, so I was used to being in ours alone, but knowing she’d be gone for good, both her and Jurnee, would be an odd feeling.

Gyth had wanted her to move in already, I know, but Summer said not until they got married. Not because she didn’t want to, but she was worried about me. No matter how many times I tried to tell her it was okay, she just wouldn’t do it.

She and Jurnee both had been asking if I was going to let the place go and maybe move into an apartment. But this was my home and it had been for a long time. Truth was, I had been thinking I might just buy the place since the owners were wanting to sell now, they just hadn’t pushed the issue since we had been tenants for so long.

Right then, I needed to stop worrying about the house and a certain man so I could finish the book. Swinging back around in my chair, toward my new desk and computer I had bought, I looked around at my office space with a pleased expression. It had been fun to create my own little writing space, filled with my books, other authors I loved and funny pics of Scooby-Doo, and my big Star Wars sign that said: “May The Force Be With You”.Looking at that picture, I placed my hands on the keyboard, willing them to move.

If Landon and his blond hair, baby blues, handsome, beyond perfect face, and amazing body that when naked people may not realize existed, but I did, kept creeping into my head, I would just have to push him right out.

I’d been doing it for years already.

ChapterFour

LANDON

The rising, morning sun was shining through my sixth-floor office window on the filled box sitting on my overpriced, dark mahogany desk.

A pretty penny was forked out for that desk and every other item in the room. My parents believed money and status were everything, but I didn’t. As their son, I had tried hard to understand them, to make them proud, and got sucked into their world, thinking I could change their way of thinking someday.

It was a day that most likely would never come.

They had made that clear with their despicable behavior toward my sister during their anniversary party they had and the big blow-up, I knew it was time for me to make some hard decisions. I hadn’t been to work since the night I told them I quit in front of everyone that night and had taken some time to think about everything.
