“If anyone thinks they can threaten myfamilythen they better think again. Nobody better get within inches of Brin and Zander or they will see what I can do with my bare hands!”

Braxton’s face lifted with a small smile.

He’d always been level-headed and easy-going since I’d met him. Although, I’d heard the story about when Jurnee, his now-wife, was in a bad situation, and Braxton himself had come unglued. I didn’t blame him one bit. But right then I was counting on him to talk me down and stop me from tearing up the town to find the fucker who dared cross me.

What I didn’t need or understand was the smirk on his face.

My body was shaking with fury.

“Why the hell would you be smiling right now?”

“Let me see,” Braxton said, motioning to the paper in my hand.

“You didn’t answer my question.”

“I was smiling because I’m finally able to welcome you to the club.”

He was making no damn sense.

“What fucking club are you talking about?” I squinted my eyes at him in frustration.

“The family club, you idiot.” He shook his head at me telling me with his actions to get with the program while I remained confused. “You don’t even realize it because it came out naturally, but you said, ‘If anyone thinks they can threatenmy family.’ That is who Brinley and Zander are for you and I smiled because I was happy to see you finally admit it out loud.”

I thought about it for a minute and it was the truth. I wasn’t sure I deserved them, but they were mine and I’d make sure nothing happened to them. I’d failed my sister and I couldn’t do the same with them.

“I see it’s sinking in. Now hand me the note,” Braxton said. But he didn’t wait for me to give it to him, he swiped it out of my hand, ninja fast.

As he read it, his face contorted into worry, and then anger vibrated off him as he pulled his phone from his jean pocket.

“What are you doing?” I asked him.

“Calling an emergency meeting at work with everyone including Lyric. He works for us, but is also a cop, so he’s a good guy to have in our corner.”

Braxton fired off a text and then shoved his cell back in his pants. “I need to tell Jurnee I’m leaving, I’ll meet you outside. We’re all in this together and will figure this out. Nobody in this group stands alone.” He gave me a pointed look. “Ever.”

He turned to find his wife and I wandered outside. The fresh air hit my face, but it did nothing to calm me down.

I had a family again.

And I would go to the ends of the earth to protect them.

Everyone had lost their minds.

I sat at the large conference table as five sets of eyes stared at me inquisitively with the same stupid smirks on all their faces that Braxton had on his earlier at his house.

“You guys are a bunch of jackasses. We have shit to talk about and you are all wrapped up in Braxton’s announcement that I usedoneword, so you’re acting like some lovesick girls.”

The truth was when we got here I was so riled up that their stupid bullshit was actually causing me to calm down just a little bit. Bantering with these men had become something I was getting used to and we could all do it in an easy, playful way. We’d bonded, which surprised the hell out of me.

“Well, it’s so damn awesome to watch someone else fall when I was recently sitting right where you are now not so long ago. And Lord knows you will still fuck it up at some point, but I for one like my front-row seat,” Kace said, laughing like a mad man.

“Hey, I’m not gonna be the last one you get to mess with,” I told them, but my gaze landed on one person in particular.

Braxton, Gyth, Landon, and Kace’s eyes followed mine as I zeroed in on the only single person in the room.

Lyric.
