“I’m fine, I wasn’t hurt.” Brin's face held a layer of hesitation as if she was assessing me to see if I was really okay though. I just wanted her by my side. Zander must have heard me call out to her because his head popped off her shoulder and he turned his head quickly in my direction.

“Daddy.” His sweet voice calling out to me settled my frayed heart and soothed my soul. My family was okay.

My girl and my son came closer and all I wanted to do was yank them down on the bed with me, hold them, and never let go.

I patted the space beside me and Brinley shook her head. “We need to be careful of your injuries, are you crazy?”

“I’m crazy about you. Now both of you get down here closer and let me feel you.” I smiled. “It wasn’t so long ago you were saying something similar and how you wanted to feel alive. Now it's my turn, but we’ll save the good stuff for later.” I winked.

“What good stuff?” Zander asked.

Brinley gave me a sharp look to silence me and I chuckled. “He’s talking about the amazing treats from Capri’s.”

“Oh, I want some of those, they are awesome.”

With another stern look from my girl, she gently set Zander on the bed next to me without saying anything else. Zander scooted up into the crook of my arm and nestled his head on my shoulder, stretching out his legs.

A look of panic swept across Brin’s face. “Honey, be careful of your father.”

“I’ll be okay.” I needed to assure her. “It’s my other side, so get down here and kiss me before I lose my mind.”

Without hesitation, she leaned over and sealed her lips to mine. Everything inside me felt right the moment her mouth hit mine. I closed my eyes and sighed.

Zander made a silly gagging sound. “Not this again.”

Brinley and I pulled apart and burst into laughter. Zander followed along. I tried to hold in the curse and the wince that it caused, making my injuries a bit painful. I managed to keep the cursing at bay, but not the look that crossed my face.

Jumping back she scowled at me. “I told you we needed to be careful.”

I stretched out my good arm and lightly grasped her wrist. I wouldn’t let them give me any more hard-hitting pain meds when I got into my room because I wanted to be awake for when I finally got to see my family. I was hurting some, but I wasn’t going to let on and make her worry. “Baby, come back here before I lose my mind.”

Zander hadn’t moved. I looked down and realized he fell asleep in a second flat after commenting on our kissing. My boy was tired. Brinley’s gaze followed mine and her face softened at seeing our son. When she looked back up at me I saw tears shimmering in her eyes.

“They caught him,” she whispered. “I don’t know how yet because Lyric and Kace walked in right before I was told I could see you. I realized I didn’t care how, just that they had. My only concern at the time was getting back here to you.”

I still had a hold of her wrist and I pulled her in close to the bed again. “Sit please?”

She didn’t argue this time and sat down just below where Zander’s feet stopped. It wasn’t close enough for me, but we weren’t moving our son right then, he was exhausted.

“I’m sure Lyric or Kace will fill us in. I was sick with worry about you guys and I’m so fucking glad the bastard is in custody. I knew the guys would come through, but I didn’t know what might happen in the in-between time.” I took a deep breath and tried to calm my rapidly beating heart. “I’m so sorry he ruined your night.”

Brin was back off the bed. But she didn’t go far. She was just getting in a better position to grab the sides of my face in both her hands, and with her beautiful blue eyes staring into mine, she said, “He didn’t ruin anything. We won’t let him.” Then she leaned in and kissed me once again.

Pulling back just a smudge, she whispered, “I love you. Now and forever.”

I felt a tear hit one of my cheeks. “Don’t cry, sweetheart. It kills me, you know that.”

“These are happy tears. I’m so thankful you are okay and we don’t have to worry anymore.” She stood tall and bit her lip. It was endearing and sexy. I loved watching her do it. She did it when she was thinking hard or unsure about something.

“What’s going on?” I asked her.

“I have a surprise for you tomorrow.” She glanced at the clock on the wall. “Well, technically it will be later today.” More lip biting was going on. “Remember how you said for me to name my time and place? And you also said that I could have anything I want?”

My already hammering pulse picked up further because I knew exactly what I had said and what she was referring to. “I did say those things and I meant them.”

She smiled. “Good. Because we’re getting married right here in a few hours.”

I felt my eyes go wide.
