"Books and archaeology," Alethia said.
"Yeah, dead guys and fictional ones." Callie reached for her drink to toast Alethia's choice. "The best kind."
Tacey hushed Callie, while Octavia continued, "Favourite date activity?"
"Amazing food I don't have to cook."
They all laughed at that. Tacey was easily the best cook among them, which was why she ran a successful café, but Alethea was hands down the worst.
"Your ideal partner?"
Alethea took a deep breath. "A history buff who likes reading and travel, who's not afraid to get his hands dirty, who's looking for a forever relationship...and gives great dick, with a gorgeous body to go with it. Oh, and he has to have a sexy voice that can take me halfway to heaven, with the skills to take me the rest of the way once the pants come off."
Callie and Tacey laughed, but Octavia was frowning at the screen. "I can put in the first bit, but the bit about getting dirty and anything after it...nope, you're going to have to word it better than that, or all you're going to get are mud wrestlers, lonely farmers and homophobes obsessed with buttsex. Not to mention an inbox full of porn." She tugged on her ear, thinking. "How about a man who's looking for the love of his life, so he can make her happy?"
Tacey raised her hand. "I'd like one of those."
More laughter, until Alethia sobered. "Yeah, that might work."
Octavia shrugged. "If it doesn't, you can just change it. I mean, your perfect match might actually be a mud wrestler or a lonely farmer. And if you do meet someone lovely who doesn't quite click, you could always introduce him to the rest of us. Callie could do the dick test, Tacey can check if he brings joy and I can do a background check, to make sure he's not some crypto king on the dark web who made all his money on drugs and sex slaves." When everyone stared at her, she just shrugged. "What? There are people out there like that, and they look like ordinary guys, not monsters at all. You have to be careful."
If Alethea hadn't resolved to do this, she probably would have given up altogether at this point, but the girls were being so helpful and hopeful...something good had to come of it, surely.
