WANT TO MEET?

Alethea just stared at the screen, her finger hovering with no idea where to land.

She'd spent three months in a love/hate relationship with the dating app Octavia had signed her up for. Which would be good if she'd felt anything akin to love for any of the guys she'd interacted with, but her feelings toward them were more like...ambivalence, bordering on boredom, which even she knew was the kiss of death in any relationship. She wanted love and passion and sparks, not...to be able to list the ten things she didn't hate about him.

The current guy asking to meet her didn't seem to be the sort of crazy crypto kingpin Octavia had warned her about. He worked at some mine site up north, posting pictures of the desert landscape and skies every few days when he was on site. He had a good eye for colour and he knew a fair bit about birds, or at least the ones he took pictures of. He sounded nice.

But she wasn't looking for nice. She was looking for love, with a side order of seriously hot sex.

Her gut instinct said to tell him no. To hold out for something more.

But she was sick of being alone in her parents' apartment, only leaving to pick up takeaway food from one of the few restaurants that managed to remain open through all the restrictions. With the restrictions easing next week, and restaurants actually allowed to serve people at tables again, just the thought of being able to share a meal with someone, anyone, whether he was a nice guy or some crazy crypto kingpin...

He'd at least have interesting dinner conversation that she hadn't heard a hundred times before, right?

SURE, she found herself typing. She began to him when and where, then reconsidered. If this was to be her first time eating out in months, she wanted to know it would be good, so she named a restaurant not far from her parents' house, and asked him when he'd be available.

The answer came back immediately:

FRIDAY NEXT WEEK AT 7?

A little over a week away. Well, at least she'd be able to tell Mum she'd finally gone on a date, Alethea thought as she typed her acceptance. She'd head out, have a nice meal, maybe some nice conversation, and slowly work up the courage to ask him if he gave good dick. How bad could it be?
