“Home,” I said. “There are some things I need to take care of.”

Killian studied my face for a moment, reading everything I hadn’t said. “Great. Then I’ll come with you. It’s about time we had a proper family meeting since all this shit went down.”

I watched as he walked around the car to the passenger door. Unable to hide my smile, I slipped in and started the engine.

TWENTY-SEVEN

DANTE

By the time we pull up to the house, it’s nearly one in the morning. The light in my father’s study is on, which means he finally got home. I had no idea where he was or what he was doing, but I’m glad he was finally back. It was time to sort things out once and for all. Killian got out of the car after me, slamming the door shut. He’d been hyping himself up the entire way here, and I was about ready to punch him in the face.

“Alright,” Killian said, bounding up the steps beside me. “What are we going to say to him?”

“That I’m done being his pawn and that we’re going to help Sienna to not only get her family business back, but to catch the Snake as well.”

He stopped mid-step. “Wait. You’re actually going to say that? To our father?”

“Yes.”

“Look.” He stepped in front of me, blocking my path. “You were driving perfectly fine just a few minutes ago, but now I’m seriously questioning your soberness.”

“Move out of the way, Killian.”

“You do realize that if you tell our father that, he might just kill you, right?”

“I’m aware, thank you.” I brushed past him, reaching for the door.

Killian’s hand wrapped around my wrist. “Wait. Dante. Please.”

“What?” I snapped.

“Think about this. You think you’re safe just because you’re the chosen heir, or whatever, but you forget I’m still here. Dad might not think I’m capable of anything other than emptying out the liquor cabinet, but that doesn’t mean he’ll put me in your place instead.” Worry filled his eyes as if he really did care what happened to me.

I shrugged him off. “This has to be done, Kill. He needs to know that he can’t just fucking use us like this.”

“Or Sienna, right?” I freeze. Killian’s voice was so low that I barely heard him. “Because that’s what this is all about, right, Dante? Protecting her?”

“So what if it is?” I ask, my jaw clenching. “Would that be so bad?”

“It will be if you lose your life,” Killian replied angrily. “You’re my brother. The only family I have left, really. I can’t lose you too.”

The emotion behind his words surprised me. “Killian, you’re not going to lose me. I promise. Besides, we’ll both be in there. He can’t kill both of us.” I pulled him into a hug, holding him close. Killian tensed before relaxing, unused to this form of affection from me.

Pulling back, I caught his eye. “Now, let’s just go fucking end this shit show.”

I opened the door, stalking toward the stairs. The house is silent. Dark. Lonely. I heard Killian’s footsteps behind me, though more hesitant than mine. I opened the door to his study, not even bothering to knock. Sal whirled around, gun already aiming for our hearts.

“Holy shit,” Killian swore, his hands going up.

“Jesus, boys.” Our father dropped the weapon immediately. “What the fuck are you sneaking around the house for?”

“We weren’t,” I said slowly, eyeing him. “Why do you have a weapon in the house?” We had security at the front gate and patrolling the perimeter of the gardens for extra measure. There was no need for our father to have a weapon at hand in his own study.

“You haven’t heard?” Sal dropped the gun onto the desk, taking a seat. He motioned for Killian to grab the glass decanter on his shelves.

“Heard what?” Killian asked, pouring him a drink.

“That fucking psycho put out a bounty on our heads. And the girl’s.”
