Her cheeks reddened, likely from the heat of the fire. “No. I don’t. Do you?”

Yes. I had a mate. She was sitting right across from me, and yet, now was not the time to tell her. I would have to wait.

I wasn’t wrong about her. Nothing could instantly transform me, heart, soul, and body like seeing my mate.

There was not a single doubt left in my mind.

“I was on a journey to find her. That’s when I stumbled upon the two guards who brought me in.”

I left it at that. If she wanted to ask more, I would tell her right then and there, but maybe this was a pack where they didn’t believe in fated mates. This whole mating would be at her pace, in her time, in her way.

Her wolf would let her know. I was her mate. There was no denying it.

“You have to eat. I know you’re hungry.”

I nodded, breaking out of my own thoughts, and lifted the clay bowl to my lips again and again until the clear broth was gone. It hadn’t been made with meat, or little meat, but the salt and vegetables in it cleared my head and pushed me closer to okay.

After a few minutes, with the warmth of the cave and the food in my belly, my eyes began to droop. I hated them for being tired. I’d finally found her, and now I was going to spend my time sleeping?

“You need rest.” Eris got up, and I became scared. Scared she would leave or worse, that she would go way.

“I’m afraid you’re going to leave,” I quickly answered, my tone desperate and wanting as I was.

“I haven’t left you yet, Oz, and I’m not planning on it.”

Hearing her resolve, I closed my eyes and submitted to sleep.
