She took a moment but moved her body in a way not to put space between us but to find a position so that we were eye to eye. Her hand twitched, balling into a fist and then relaxing. “Can I…”
Somehow, I read her mind. I was weak and tired, and the only reason I didn’t stink to high heaven was because I assumed sometime in my darkness she had washed me. It was an honor to be taken care of by this goddess. I would swear on my life her eyes were fashioned from a star.
I rubbed a circle on her lower back. “You may touch me any way you like, Eris. Any time you like, Eris. Anywhere you like, Eris. I am yours, completely and totally.”
She reached up with her hand and stroked my cheek with her palm. I groaned out loud at the connection. There was something so deeply intimate about her choosing to touch me this way, a stroke of approval and admission.
A seal of Fate.
“You are everything I need and want, Eris. I don’t care if the entire world hates you. My pack will take you in as one of their own. My parents would treat you as their daughter. My family and my pack are yours now. Everything I am is yours.”
The thunderstorm continued to boom outside, making a background soundtrack of perfection for this moment while the cave continued to drip-drop every few seconds. She was warm in my arms but made a move to get off my lap. “What are you doing?” I asked, needing her touch like never before.
“I’m adding wood to the fire so you don’t get cold.”
Laughing, I pulled her tighter against me. “Mate, I could never be cold again if you’re with me. But I need to hear it from you.”
She straddled my legs and wrapped her arms around my neck. The cave became darker as more ominous clouds moved in to take their turn. “What do you need to hear, Oz?”
“That you accept me as your mate. That’s all I need to hear.”
Her fingers wound into the back of my hair and I closed my eyes, tattooing another moment into my skull, waiting for the honey to pour from her lips. “Oz, I’ve known you were my mate for a few days now. I just knew it. I accept you. More than that…I think I already am falling in love with you.”
“Then show me.”
