“I’d like to maybe discuss ballistics and the angle at which the male vic shot himself.”

“You think it’s off?”

He only shrugs. “I think this is the second murder-suicide in as many days. Same MO, same demographic and social status. Everythingfeelsthe same. The other isn’t my homicide, but a man like me knows to turn the television on when Tiffany Hewitt is speaking.” His eyes glimmer with something a little flirty. Something a lot dirty. “She’s purrrty. And I’m a man who can appreciate a woman’s fine looks.”

“Noted,” I murmur dryly. “Though not at all necessary for the job.”

He chuckles. “You’re pretty too, Doctor Mayet.”

When I glance back up at him and scowl, he flashes a wide grin. “Just an observation.”

“Will we need to discuss sexual harassment in the workplace?”

“Only if you had the same talk with Detective Malone outta the downtown precinct.”

When my eyes flash with anger, and maybe a little guilt, Fox’s smile only grows.

“Like I said, word travels fast. But you don’t have to worry about me. It’s not sexual harassment when I say you look good. It’s just…” he digs his hands into his pockets and shrugs as Kirk goes to open the car door and Fox’s partner slaps his hand away, “an observation.”

“Ouch!” Kirk swings his gaze to me, then back to Grayson. “Why are you hitting?”

“Why are you touching my crime scene without gloves or your assistant documenting it first?” the other man snaps.

“Shit.” Drawing a deep breath and rolling my eyes, I step forward and grumble, “I’m gonna have to run this damn case, aren’t I?”

Giddy with approval, Fox falls into step beside me and walks close enough that his tucked elbow bumps mine. “That’s what I was hoping would happen.”
