Stunned, she wrenches her neck in her effort to sit up straight.

Mess with her it is.

“You what? With Fletch?OurCharlie Fletcher?”

“Uh-huh. All night long.”

“Does Archer know?” She swings her gaze around the office, then out to the city view that my new position rewards me with. “The world isn’t on fire. Why isn’t the world on fire?”

“Because he was there too, the whole time.”

“Twoof them?” She shoves to her feet and does a weird ‘I’m coming, I’m going, I’m spinning around in circles’ thing. “Minka Mayet! What the eff? And why wasn’t I invited?”

I choke out a laugh and toss my phone to my desk. “You’re sick! And I don’t share.”

“I didn’t think Archer would either, but it turns out I was wrong! Are you done with him now? Because maybe I can talk him into a littlesomething-something… and since he’s into the two-guy thing, maybe he’ll invite Tim, and then all my troubles would go away.”

“You wouldn’t actually take Arch to bed, would you?”

“No.” She moves to my visitor chair and plops down. “I’d use him until Tim stepped into the room, then I’d push Arch out the door and tell him to get his shit together. You deserve better. You deservehim, and none of that on-again, off-again crap. Honestly, I’m already over the moping.”

“I don’t mope.” I roll my eyes and pick up my phone again when it buzzes with Fletch’s name.

Showing the screen to Aubree quickly, I grin as her eyes flare wide, then I answer the call and bring the device to my ear. “Hey, honey. How’s work?”’

In front of me, Aubree appears to be having a stroke.

“Why are you being weird?” Fletch huffs, when usually, he’s the joker. “I need your help.”

“I enjoyed our night together.” I lower my voice and bite my bottom lip. “It was just…” I sigh. “Perfect.”

“Okay, creepo. Listen, Arch and I are stuck in interviews with Paul’s killers, but it’s almost time for the station nursery to close. I know it’s a huge ask, and I know this isn’t your problem, but I’m begging you, Delicious. Could you pick Mia up and keep her for an hour?”

“I really enjoyed spending time with you too,” I murmur. “I’m so glad Archer knows about us.”

“What the fuck is wrong with you?” His voice comes out hard and mean. Probably a mixture of spending the day talking to killers, and spending the afternoon stressed about his daughter. “I haven’t had a chance to check on Jada in a few hours, but I left a voicemail for her so she knows where Mia is.”

He stops for a moment as disappointment leeches through the phone. “She hasn’t even called, Minka. It’s the fucking afternoon, and she hasn’t even called.”

“I know. I love you too.”

Gasp! Aubree almost falls out of her chair.

“You’re fucking with someone,” he chuckles. “Aubree?”

“Mmhmm.”

“You told her we spent the night together?”

“Hmm.” I smile and make that hum of pleasure in the back of my throat. “Yeah.”

“She rolling on the floor yet?”

A flirty snigger works its way along my throat. “Just about.”

“Can you get my daughter?”

“Sure.” I pause for dramatic effect, then add, “Text me the details, handsome. I’d love to do that for you.”
