Bobby

Fly Away With Me

“Welcome aboard, Mr. and Mrs. Kincaid.” The flight attendant smiles and checks our boarding passes. “You’re in 2A and 2B. Enjoy your flight and call out if you need anything at all. I’ll be by shortly with refreshments.”

“Thank you.” I take Kit’s hand in mine and lead her through the aisle to our seats.

It’s closing in on eleven. We’ve been married for about eight hours and forty-three minutes, not that I’m counting. I’m exhausted, I’m sick of sharing my bride with other people, and I’m thoroughly looking forward to spending the next nine hours in the air where we don’t have to talk to anyone else.

Pizza and ice-cream swirl happily in my stomach and make me smile like a fat kid passing out in a bakery. Carefully, I lead her to our seats – I know she’s exhausted – tuck her in, then I reach up and put our carry-ons in the overhead compartment.

Since I’ve yet to tell Kit where we’re going or for how long, Tink had to pack for her. Fortunately for Kit, Tink is an over packer, so she’ll have everything she could possibly need, plus more. Unfortunately for me,andthe plane’s weight restrictions, Tink’s an over packer, and probably the sole reason we go down over the Atlantic.

I reach above my head and tuck the heavy bags in securely, but at the barest of tickles from Kit’s fingertips on my stomach, I shiver and look down at her goofy smile.

I close the compartment door, fix my shirt, and sit down next to her, and as soon as I’m in, she tucks her arm inside mine and snuggles close. “This is amazing,” she whispers and drops a kiss on the ball of my shoulder. “Thank you so much.”

I look around the first-class cabin and smile. Nothing but the best for my bride. I can’t take my money with me when I die, and I have more than I’ll ever need. So we fly first-class, and she’ll never have to worry about money again for the rest of her life.

“You’re welcome, Mrs. Kincaid.” I turn my head and wait for her to press her lips to mine. “Mrs. Kincaid.I’ve never heard something that sounds so good.” With the satisfied smirk of a man who now has everything he ever wanted, I grab a bottle of champagne from the ice bucket and begin to peel the foil off the top.

“Bobby, no, that’s not free.” She smacks my hand painfully and hisses a warning. “Put it back. I brought snacks.”

Of course she brought snacks.

I laugh softly and put her smacking hand back in her lap. “It’s already paid for, babe. So please, just relax.” I do my best to do the Flynn Rider smolder, but she’s immune. She glares back and watches me pop the cork.

I’m not surprised at her panic. I know she’s lived a modest life. I know her dad went hungry some nights so his kids could eat. An upbringing like that sticks around in a kid’s mind, and no matter how much money she has access to now, I know she’ll always be who she is.

Unassuming.

Unspoiled.

Frugal.

Perfect.

But the day I marry the woman of my dreams? Yeah, I’ll be spending money. I’ll do anything, buy her anything, be anything she wants, just to make her smile.

I grab the single rose from the vase – this, Ididn’tspecifically organize or pay for, but I’ll be keeping it anyway – and I pass it to her with the smolder. My heart gallops like it’s our first date all over again as our fingers brush.

I would say that Ihopethis feeling lasts forever, this heart galloping, sweaty palms, nervous smiles feeling, but I don’t need to hope, because Iknow. She makes me nervous just to look at her; she makes me smile just to be near her. She makes me happy just by existing.

I pass her a full glass of champagne and raise mine when she smiles. “A toast?” I whisper. It feels like we’re alone. We’re in a small cabin of sorts, the walls high enough that we don’t see anyone else, but that doesn’t mean people can’t hear us. I’m not sharing her. “To a long and unbelievably happy life together.” I smile when she wraps my arm with hers to get closer. “I want only to make you happy, baby. That’s it. That’s my life. You made me the happiest, luckiest man on this earth today, so I’ll do everything I can to make you just as happy. I love you, Kit.”

We tap glasses and smile like goofs. “To a long, happy life together,” she whispers back. “I love you, too.”

“Did you have a good day?” We lounge back and wait to take off. Throwing my arm over her shoulder, I pull her in and play with her long hair. “It was a long ass night without you.”

She sighs happily. “I had an amazing day, and yeah, last night sucked. I think I slept three hours at the most.” She looks up at me. “I’m happy this is an overnight flight. Sleep time.”

I chuckle and pull her back down. “Me too. As soon as we take off, we can get the blankets and pillows out and relax. I’m gonna pass out as soon as we lay down.”

She simply hums lazily.

“What did you do last night?”
