Bobby

Home

Ikeep Kit’s hand in mine as we slowly descend the stairs from the plane. The warm sun on my skin, and fresh air filling my lungs, feels so fucking good after being cooped up in a plane for the last nine hours. Just like on the way there, we flew through the night, so we’re rested and ready to see our family – after a shower and some food that wasn’t prepared inside a plane.

“Mmm, the breeze is so nice,” Kit purrs and clutches to my arm.

“Yeah, it is nice.” I turn at the bottom of the stairs and help her down the last couple until her feet touch the ground. “Are you excited to be home?”

“Mmhm. Travelling is fun, but home is always my favorite place.”

“Me, too.” I switch my phone on for the first time since leaving Heathrow. Juggling our carry-on bags, I pull her into my side and smile that after an entire month of being married and spending one on one time together, she still wants to cling to me. I guess I’m not as annoying as Jon says I am.

Suck it, Jon Fart.

I lead us through the electronic doors and toward the luggage collection. “I wonder what’s happened while we were away.”

“There’s so much to catch up on. I wonder how Izzy’s doing? Four weeks is a long time in baby growing terms.”

Inconsiderate pricks pushing and shoving to get to their bags first continuously bang Kit around and shove her into me. “Dunno.” I grunt impatiently. I pull her closer to me, throw my arm over and place her in front of me so she’s protected by my body. If people get through me to bump her now, they’re dead meat. “Dunno. I wonder if she has a belly, yet?”

“You could just ask me yourself, Mr. andMrs. Kincaid.”

Kit spins with a squeal. “Iz!” She launches herself forward and throws her arms around Iz’s neck in a choke hold. So much for protecting her from being bumped. They’re practically body slamming each other. “Oh my God, Izzy. I missed you!”

“I missed you, too.” She laughs and steps back. “And you too, B. I missed you both so much.”

I take her against my chest and press a long kiss to her cheek. “Jesus, Sissy. I missed you, too. I didn’t even know how much till I saw you.” Stepping back, I look at her belly that’s definitely now a belly. “You’ve grown.”

“Robert Kincaid, are you calling me fat?”

“No! I was just… I…”

She snickers and presses herself to my side opposite Kit. “I’m kidding, B, relax. Bean kinda popped. I’m not freaking out.”

Kit reaches across and presses her hand to Iz’s belly. “You look so cute. It’s little, like you’re smuggling a softball.” She smiles down and coos, “Hi, Bean. I love you already. Are you still making your mommy sick?”

Mommy. I’ve come to some kind of acknowledgment in my mind that she’s pregnant, but I guess I didn’t move through the ‘mommy’ phase yet.

I’m still adapting.

“I’m actually starting to feel a little better. As long as I carry crackers in my bag all the time, I can usually keep it under control.”

“That’s so good. Was it bad?”

“Not terrible. I was only sick a few times, but was nauseous full time for a few weeks.”

Spotting our cases, I step away and grab them from the carousel as the girls continue catching up. I pick up our cases and grunt under their weight, and when I turn back around to find the girls, I stop on a different smiling face. “Jim! Holy shit.” I rush forward and toss the bags at his feet. “Jesus, give me a damn hug. It’s so good to see you, man.” And even better that he’s smiling. It’s been too long since I saw his silly smirk.

“It’s good to see you, too. We missed you.” He taps my abs. “You put on weight, B? Too much haggis?”

“Don’t knock the haggis till you try it.” I look over his shoulder to the girls. “It’s not that I’m not happy to see you, but what are you doing here?”

He shrugs casually. “Iz wanted to surprise you. I didn’t want her to drive alone. Driving her here is my job.”

“Are you… What’s…?” I don’t even know what to ask.
