“I don’t know. But we’ll know in…” He looks at his watch. “Less than five hours.”

“Your house?” Jim asks, meaning dinner, drinks, and dessert at our place – the usual arrangement when we all get together.

“Yep, come over by seven and we’ll order something in.”

“Sweet.” Jim smiles like theoldJimmy used to. I don’t know what happened while we were away, but I’d be lying if I said this new behavior around Iz was unsurprising. They seem… fine.

“We should call Tina,” Iz says. “It’ll be fun, and you haven’t seen them in ages. She’s busting to ask about Rome.”

I shrug casually and laugh. “I’ve got nothing to report on Rome except gelato and pizza. We basically slept through it.” Bobby squeezes me the way he always does. He just wants a hug. “But good idea. I’ll call her when we get home.”

“Oh, man,” Jim whines dramatically. “She doesn’t have to become one of us, does she? She scares the shit out of me.”

I snort. “She’s already one of us. And good. Don’t teach her kid to swear, and you’ll be fine.”
