“You did?”

“Yeah, the fu–fudger, thought he was funny. He laughed because I had girls in my corner.”

“Jack, don’t swear.”

His eyes widen as he looks at his sister. “What? I didn’t!”

“But you did, in your brain you swore.”

“Oh, come on! You can’t get mad at me for thinking it!”

“So what happened?” Jim interrupts eagerly. “How’d you do?”

“Well, he thought he was cute. He made ‘yo mama’ jokes about my sister, B.”

“You shut him up?”

His face splits into a painful smile. “Yup.”

“You win?”

“Knocked him out in the second round.”

“Shut the fuck up!”

“Bobby!”

“Turns out Iz knows what she’s talking about,” he teases. “She was badass, and she was a helluva lot meaner in my corner than you were. I’m taking her to the world titles. Your soft ass can stay home with the other women.”

“You did good, kid. I’m really sorry we weren’t there.”

“It’s okay. You’ll get the next one.”

“We will, I promise.” I pull him in for a hug. He’s stiff and awkward, but I don’t care. I’m an asshole for not being there for him. He deserves so much better than that. “But I’m still sorry about today. We’ll celebrate tonight. Evie, do you want pizza for dinner?”

“Evie wuvs pizza.”

“Of course you do, baby girl. You wouldn’t be one of us if you didn’t.”

Kit frowns. “But you can’t eat pizza. Neither can Jim.”

“That’s okay. We’ll still celebrate. Jim and I will eat our broccoli, and we’ll imagine ways to kill those of you who get pizza.”

“I’m still confused.” Aiden stares back and forth between me and Evie. “Who owns the kid?”

“I Evie!”
