Bobby

Three Weeks To Go

After my night with Kit, after finally making a genuine connection again rather than a simple ‘hey’ on my way to unconsciousness, I’ve been doing better at training. I needed to go back to basics. Back to the reason I do everything I do, and now that I have, the weeks are trickling by and training is going full steam ahead.

When I’m in lockdown, all I do is train, sleep, and eat.

But that’s not who I am anymore. I have a family, now. A wife to come home to. Even Jack needs genuine time to thrive. So no matter how tired I am, I drag my ass home and make sure we have real conversations.

I make sure Kit and I have real sex – not just a physical act that ends with passing out, but a real connection. As long as we make that connection, the rest of my life lines up perfectly.

“I think I met someone…”

I trip on my rope and almost pitch forward to the mats at Aiden’s soft words. “You met someone? A girl? An actual human girl?”

Aiden never ‘meets’ a girl. And he definitely never brings it back to us to talk about. He hooks up at 188 in the relative anonymity of a dark club and alcohol. In those settings, he does just fine, but to officiallymeetsomeone is different.

And for him to tell us about her; that’s big.

“Yes, a girl, dumbass.”

Jimmy’s eyes are as wide as saucers. “Who?”

“Just a girl…” he hedges. “Forget I mentioned it.”

Despite his softly spoken words and the color creeping up his neck, Aiden’s not actually a quiet guy. He’s a rowdy, loud, and bossy at home, but in front of other people, in crowds, in public, when discussing his private life, he prefers to speak only when he has something to say.

Unlike Jim, who talks just to hear his own voice.

Jimmy restarts skipping and smirks slyly at me. He has to cut weight for his fight, so he’s skipping like the rest of us unlucky fuckers. He sits at the very top of his division and has to cut, whereas I’m sitting firmly in the middle of mine. I get to eat and not add weigh-in stress to my plate.

“Do we know her?”

“Nope… Don’t think so. I figure she’s new around town; haven’t seen her around before.”

Jim rolls his eyes at Aiden’s almost silence. “So, where’d you meet her?”

“At the store. I accidentally rammed her cart.”

“Is that a euphemism for fucking her till she passed out in the bread aisle, or…”

“No! Shut up, dick. I literally ran into her when I wasn’t watching.”

“So…?”

“So what?”

“Fuck, Aiden! Why is this so difficult? Are you interested? Is she? Or are you literally telling us a story about some granny you bumped into at Jonah’s? Because if it is, that’s the lamest fucking story I ever heard.”

“Fuck you, James. Forget I mentioned a damn thing.” His rope whips around faster with frustration.

I know it was a big deal for him to bring it up, so I intercept before these two decide to beat the snot out of each other and I never get answers. “Aido, is she pretty?” I grin, because I know any guy that’s interested in any girl thinks she’s beautiful. Doesn’t matter what she looks like to the rest of the world – if he’s interested, then she’s beautiful.

His rope continues to spin fast, but his smile creeps up slowly. “Yeah, she’s stunning.”

“Who is she? Tall, short? Ginger Ninja? Blonde?”
