She smiles. “That’s what I thought. So it doesn’t matter how you look, because to him, and to the rest of us, you’re beautiful.” Reaching to her back pocket, she takes out her cellphone and starts swiping.
I look down at Bean as shestillsleeps soundly. I roll my eyes. Jesus, she could’ve saved her awake time for when her mama and daddy get married, instead of keeping us awake all night.
“Tink! Come to Wizzy’s house… Now… Because she’s getting married… in twenty minutes!” Lowering the phone from her ear, she snorts. “That’s what I thought.” She dials a second time. “Tina! You need to come now.” She jumps in place excitedly. “Hang on, let me put you on speaker.”
“What’s going on?”
I’m moving from shock to excitement.
I’m getting married today.

“Wizzy’s getting married!”
“Yes, I know.” Tina audibly rolls her eyes. “That was last week’s news.”
“No, she’s getting married today. Like, now.”
“No!” she cries. “You can’t. We can’t come.”
Kit gives me the stink eye like it’s my fault. “Why the hell not?”
“I’m with a client, like, right now.”
“Dammit, Tina! This is important.” She drops the phone on my bed and moves back to the closet.
“I know. I’m so sorry, Izzy. You know I wouldn’t miss it if I had a choice, right?”
“I know, it’s cool.”
“It’s just that, I need the money, babe. I need to feed my daughter.”
“Seriously Tina, it’s fine.”
“FaceTime!” Kit calls out from the closet.
“What?”
“We’ll FaceTime you, so you can still watch.”
“Yes!” Tina cheers. “Evie will be gutted if she misses it. FaceTime her, and I’ll do my best to check in every couple minutes.”
“Okay, it’s done. We’ll call you when we get there.”
“Okay, I love you girls, you know that? I’m really sorry.”
“We know. We love you, too. See you soon, babe.”
“Bye.” Tina hangs up, and Kit walks out of the closet with a white sundress.
“I know it’s cold outside, but you’ll rock this dress. We’ll give you boots, hat, and a coat until we’re inside. You’ll be fine. Sit down and let me start your hair.”

Tink arrived at my house approximately eighteen minutes after Kit called her. Dressed up, makeup, stunning… in eighteen friggin minutes.
