“Why’d you do it?”

He shrugs and folds thick forearms across his chest. “I read it felt good for a girl. I knew I had loads of spare time up my sleeve, for healing and whatnot. I hoped you’d like it.”

“You got it specifically for me?”

He playfully rolls his eyes. “Do you ever listen to me?EverythingI do is for you. How many times do I have to remind you?”

Maybe a million more. Then another million after that.

He nods toward my sticky belly. “Looks like you got messy, too.”

“Yeah. I’ll have a shower in a second. I didn’t mean to wake you.”

“You didn’t wake me. Bean’s body clock did. We see two a.m. most days now.”

I nod and watch the bags fill. “Do you miss her as much as I do right now?”

“Yeah,” he chuckles and pushes off the counter. “Yeah, I miss her. But we won’t get this often, so I’m determined not to waste it.”

“I’m sorry if I’m ruining it.”

“I didn’t say you were ruining anything.” He stops close and crouches low so our eyes are level. “This is your party, Bubs. Whateveryouwanna do is the right thing. I just want you to have a nice time.”

“I am.” I take the cups from my breasts and work to seal the bags for freezing. I can take them home and Bean can have them tomorrow. “Thank you for such an amazing night away.”

He helps me disassemble the pump and nods. “You’re welcome. Are you excited to move soon?”

I stand and stretch my back. “Yeah. You guys have been working hard to get them ready. I’m excited to see inside.”

Jim’s construction company was contracted to work on all seven houses, but it wasn’t until the media crushed Kit’s flowers one too many times that a second crew was brought on to expedite the renovations.

It’s either, get them done and move out asap… Or visit Kit in prison.

There is no third option.

“Are you excited?”

He shrugs. “I am. It’ll be cool to live close like that, but I’m pissed Mom’s refusing.”

I smile. “Nelly is… capable. She wants to stay in her home. It’s a fortress. She’ll be fine.”

“True. She’s a badass, but mostly she just doesn’t want us breathing down her neck on a daily basis.”

I snicker. “Which you would be. Maybe she wants to date. Maybe she knows she can’t do that with you guys around.”

His fiery eyes snap to mine. “Shut your filthy mouth, Isabelle! She can’t date.”

I laugh, but he isn’t playing.

“No way is she allowed to date. He’ll die. Whoever he is, I’ll kill him with my bare hands.”

I roll my eyes and step up to pass him the last of the pump pieces.

Jim stands in a fancy hotel bathroom suite, naked, sexy, deliciously rumpled. He smells of breastmilk, yet he stands here washing pump pieces under the bathroom faucet.

“I’m excited to show you,” he adds seriously. “It’ll be our forever home, Bubs. A gated community just for us and the guys. Seven houses, enough for everyone, even Jack, for when he’s older and ready to leave his mama bear.”

I snort. “Yeah, he’s leaving his mama bear and moving next door. That’s so badass of him.”
