But JoJo wasn’t the only one who wanted to get to the Hamptons. Once I opened that door, we were headed straight to the laundry room to start what we were long overdue.

I left our luggage in the trunk and practically dragged her toward the front door of the house.

“Now who’s in a hurry?”

“Me.”

She dangled the keys from her fingers, and I took them. There was no secret what we were about to do. No mystery.

But I couldn’t wait to be with her any longer.

This had been an exercise in delayed gratification at its best.

I pressed down on the door handle and barged through the opening before slamming the massive wooden door shut.

“Kane.” JoJo giggled as she struggled to keep up. “You left the keys in the door.”

“They’ll be there later.”

When we stepped into the laundry room, time stopped. I caged her against the dryer, my chest already heaving and we hadn’t even gotten to the good part yet.

“Tell me you want this. Want us.”

She looked up at me through heavy-lidded eyes. Damn, she was still so beautiful. And she held me in the palm of her hand.

“I want it all with you.” She kissed the tips of my fingers and traced around my bare left ring finger. “Someday this too. It’s a lot to ask, but I want to be connected to you in every way possible.”

She traced the faint tan line where my wedding band once was. When I’d taken it off, I never intended to put one on again. Never planned to have a relationship with another woman. And I’d seriously debated if I wanted to get near one intimately.

Too risky.

Too much pain.

In typical JoJo fashion, she shattered all that. I wasn’t even legally divorced, and I already wanted her to be my wife. Now that she’d put the idea in my head, I wouldn’t stop until it happened.

“Here. We’ll do it right here.”

“In the laundry room?” A faint smile tugged her lips.

“Where else? We’re not like everyone else who gets married on the beach.”

Her smile turned secretive. “We’re not like everyone else, are we?”

“Nope.”

“And I’m pretty sure you just accepted my marriage proposal.” She placed her hands on my stomach and ran them up to my chest.

I couldn’t wait to feel her hands on my skin.

“You beat me to asking.”

She kissed my jaw. “Would you ask? Someday?”

“Yeah. You’ve changed my outlook on the institution of marriage.”

She nipped my ear. “I bet you’d make a great divorce attorney with all that motivation.”

“Nah. I’m only getting divorced once.”
