“What are you doing here?” I asked into the phone still pressed to my ear.

He glared at the flowers, tossed his briefcase on the table, and grabbed the vase.

“You need something to liven up your space,” he said to Lisa.

When he returned to the conference room, he seemed marginally calmer.

“What am I doing here? I forgot to give you this before we left this morning.” He stalked toward me with a heat in his gaze that set my already buzzing cells into chaos.

His lips smashed to mine. There was anger in his touch, but it wasn’t directed at me.

And there was no room left for me to doubt his intention.

More than anything the kiss saidmine.

I wrapped my arms behind his neck as he gripped my hips. Everything melted away. All that existed was him and me.

Together we could do anything.

I believed that with my whole heart.

And we might fight the entire time, but I didn’t care. Because we were going to make this work.

We finally broke apart, and I was dazed . . . and silly with happiness.

“That felt like you were trying to top—”

“You better not have kissed him,” Kane growled.

I bit my lip to keep from smiling and lost. “Only you.”

“Do you have to be here to work?”

“I’m capable of working from anywhere.”

He snatched my hand. “We’re going to my office. Whitley can give you some of his couch space when he comes in.”

“Now who’s the one who can’t be separated for half an hour?” I full-on grinned when he picked up my bag.

“I’ve been accused of worse.” He dragged me toward the door.

“Kane?”

He stopped and looked back.

“What are you doing?”

“Honestly, Barn, you make me lose my head. I don’t know if I’m coming or going, and I don’t give a damn. And I’m afraid if I give you too much time away from me, you’ll realize I’m exactly what you thought I was.” He squeezed my hand. “I can’t let you go.” He put a finger to my lips. “I know. I know. I’ll probably end up in Zimbabwe building fences around ant beds to save the species. But that beats the hell out of what my life was before you blasted back in.”

My heart flipped.

I can’t let you go.

I drew in a deep cleansing breath.

I can’t let you go.

I felt like I was about to burst from happiness.
