She’d stormed in with her bravado and wild style and big heart. And she’d stolen mine.

“Swimming lessons tomorrow?” she asked.

I wasn’t kidding when I said I’d gotten out of bed for the first time two days ago.

“It will be good for your recovery,” Dr. Hotshot said from behind me. “Congratulations.”

JoJo beamed at him. “Thank you.”

I glared. He hovered over Penelope a little too much for my liking. And when she thought no one was looking, my daughter’s gaze on him lingered a lot too long.

Discreetly JoJo nudged me in the side.

“Thank you,” I grated out.

“Cake!” Blake pointed toward the towering creation Nancy had made.

“I could go for some cake.” I pulled JoJo through the crowd.

We held the knife together and cut our first slice as a couple. As we fed each other chocolate cake, I thought about how far we’d come. What a long journey we’d been on.

We had a lifetime of adventures ahead of us.

I slipped an arm around her waist and fingered the soft fabric of her dress. “What have you got hiding under there?”

A blush spread from her cheeks down her neck. I’d asked her that the first time we met. She hadn’t forgotten.

She lifted her chin and a mischievous grin graced her lips. She tugged on my belt loop and spoke against my ear. “Nothing.”

Oh yes. We were going to have so much fun the rest of our lives.

“Thanks for coming everybody,” I said with a raised voice. “Now go.”

“Kane!” JoJo said, even as she giggled.

“What?”

She kissed my cheek. “I love you, you crazy insane man.”

“I love you, my beautiful warrior wife.”
