I flew out of the apartment and stabbed the button for the elevator. “Come on. Come on.” I hopped from one foot to the other while I waited, sprinting inside when the doors finally slid open.

The ride down to the lobby was quick, but not fast enough for my liking. I burst from the car and frantically scanned the opulent space, hoping that he was still there for some reason.

“Something I can help you with?” A polite gentleman I recognized as the doorman gave me a smile.

“A man just left. Linen suit. Jacket off. Light brown hair.”

“I believe he took off in that direction.” The man pointed down the street.

“Thank you,” I shouted as I darted past.

The sidewalk wasn’t crowded, but Andrew was nowhere to be seen. That didn’t stop me. I ran at a full sprint toward the end of the block, ignoring the don’t-walk sign as I approached. With a quick check that it was clear, I hurdled a puddle and made it across without incident.

Just ahead, a familiar figure sludged along at a dejected pace.

“Andrew,” I called, increasing my speed.

He paused, a surprised expression on his face when he saw me. I pumped my arms and legs until I reached him. I hurled myself at him, and he stumbled but caught me. His arms instinctively wrapped around my waist.

“Is that how it feels when I leave?” I breathed into his neck. “Because I never want to feel that again.”

“Bright Side,” he rasped, burying his nose into my hair. “You make me crazy. I swear I’m not a creep.”

“I know.”

He shifted so that we were nose to nose. “You do?”

I grinned. “Would I be chasing after a creeper?”

“I suppose not.”

“Will you come back for dinner?” I asked hopefully.

“I’d love to.” He brushed a stray strand of hair from my face. “Why’d you miss work today?”

I stared at him warily. “Can I take a pass for now?”

“For now.” His hand skated up my spine and into my hair. I shivered. “I’m going to kiss you now.”

“Are you always going to warn me?”

“Until I’m one hundred percent sure you’re okay with it, yes.”

I tilted my head back in invitation. When his lips met mine, I moaned my approval. Now that I was with him, I felt right. Better.

I swept my tongue into his mouth. His growl rumbled through me. He angled his head and held me firm against him.

“I’m sorry,” he whispered. His lips molded to mine. There was a gentleness in his touch, but a possession that instead of scaring me, brought me peace.

I locked my fingers around his neck and pressed my body against him. There was no mistaking the hard length that pressed against my stomach. I allowed myself a moment to feel the fear so I could push it back. To feel trapped, denied of power. Manipulated.Disciplined.But then Daniel’s words came to me again, even though I had no idea that they were the words I’d needed to hear. The power is in your hands now. The freedom to choose what happens to you, to your body. That freedom is yours.

And then I felt it.Liberty.My choice to be with him could be mine. This man could be mine.
