“I’m okay with that.”

Chapter Thirty-Five

Cal

“I’m notsure I’m ready for this.”

I tapped her head. “I warned you.”

We strolled through the park near Ma’s. It wasn’t too crowded for morning. We’d spent the night at Ma’s in my old room. A twin bed with Beau was no hardship.

“You totally made that up.”

“We’ll see.” I lifted a shoulder and lowered it. “What did you think of the house?”

She dragged a few steps. “I don’t think it’s the one. If it wasn’t so close to your mom, I would’ve already ruled it out.”

“I agree.”

Wap.

An acorn bounced off my shoulder to the ground.

Beau’s eyes widened. I flashed her my bestI told you solook.

She lifted her gaze to the tree. A squirrel was brazenly sitting on a branch.

“Better move. He looks like he’s getting ready to reload.” I tugged on her hand.

Wap.

“He hit me with an acorn,” she said incredulously before bursting into laughter.

“The last piece of Italian cake is mine,” I said in victory.

She put a hand on my chest. “I’m sure I can convince you to share.”

“Oh yeah? It’s gonna have to be real convincing, baby sister.”

She batted her lashes. “I’m up for the challenge.”

I caught her by the waist and pulled her against me. An acorn landed about two feet away from us.

“He’s got one hell of a throwing arm.”

She snickered, then sobered. “Are you sure about that house?”

“I’m sure. We’ll find the right one when we find the right one.”

She poked out her bottom lip. “But I want it now.”

I kissed her forehead. “Me too.”

“Then how are you so calm? This is the most important property of our lives.” She fisted my shirt.

I nuzzled her nose. “I’d rather have a baby than a house.”

Her lips parted.
