Now that we’d ripped the lid off of everything, that we knew we were both here because we wanted to be, it was that much harder for me not to show her how I felt with my body.

We were closer than we’d ever been and that physical connection was another form of expression I wanted to share with her again.

Beau could be persuasive when she wanted to be, although it didn’t take much convincing on her part when it came to me. I wasn’t saying no to her. Just later.

She drew in a deep breath and released it as if she were mentally counting backward from ten. “I wish we were here for that, but we’re going to the ballroom. It’s the only open space Olivia had available today.”

“You know I can’t dance.”

This time her small smile was genuine. “We’re not dancing either.” She pulled on the door handle. “Let’s go before I lose my nerve.”

She punched in a code near the back door and the lock clicked.

I held it open but caught her hand as she passed. The diamond ring flashed. Mine.

I hadn’t realized how badly I needed my ring on her finger. But my left ring finger burned. I needed to be hers too. To have that reminder that this was real. Permanent.

“I’ve got you,” I said.

“I know.” She pecked my lips.

Every time she kissed me, it was anI love you, and I’d never get enough. It was better than the words.

I was the same guy I’d always been. The one who loved my family, my job, and her. But since she’d left, I’d been a shell of that guy.

She’d given me my life back.

I’d never believe I deserved her. Nobody did. But I meant what I told her. I wasn’t strong enough to let her go again.

“That cake needs more sprinkles.” A woman behind the front desk put her hands on her hips.

“We already used two bottles on it.” Another woman tugged on her apron. “Who’s the professional baker here? Me or you?”

“Hi, Olivia,” Beau said with a raised brow.

“Beau. Hey.” The lady in the dress who wanted more sprinkles hurried around the desk. “I have everything set up for you. Follow me.” She walked backward and pointed at the lady in the apron. “More sprinkles, Roxy. You know I’m right.”

The woman groaned. “You want more sprinkles, I’ll give you more sprinkles.”

“Everything okay?” Beau asked as we walked across the lobby.

Olivia waved her hand absently. “That’s just my best friend. You’d think by now she’d realize I’m always right.”

“I heard that,” Roxy called.

“And apparently she has supersonic hearing.” She moved at a quick clip like time was short and too important to waste. “No one else has arrived yet.”

Beau stopped. “I should call Lincoln and Teague.”

“Want me to?” I put my hands in my pockets. I didn’t know what to tell them, but if she wanted her brothers, I’d make it happen.

“Here’s the ballroom.” Olivia opened one of the double doors behind her. “It might be more private for your call.”

“Thank you.” Beau twirled her phone in her hand.

“I’ve set up refreshments, but if there’s anything else you need, let me know.”

Beau peeked inside the room. “Looks perfect.”
