Ienjoyed having Ty in my space. He looked good, smelled good, and cooked well.
“Thank you for helping me clean up,” I said while folding the dish towel to hang it on the edge of the sink.
“My pleasure.”
“I want to show you something. Do you have a few more minutes?”
“I don’t have anything to do except go home and sleep. What do you want to show me?”
“Let me check on my mom, then I will show you.”
“Cool.”
“Momma?” I knocked on her bedroom door before I entered.
“Come in.”
After walking in, I found her sitting at her vanity, preparing for bed. I smiled at her through the mirror, picked up her brush, and began brushing her hair.
“When I was a little girl. I wanted hair just like yours. I wanted to brush it down my back and wear it long and straight like you did. Then I realized I was tender-headed, and these wigs will do me just fine.”
We both laughed.
“Did Ty leave?”
“No, he’s still here.”
“What are you doing in here when you have a handsome man waiting out there?”
“I just wanted to check on you.”
“Girl, be a young woman for a little while. I’m okay. Go and find out how many licks it takes to get to the center of that tootsie pop out there,” she said and winked.
“Momma!”
I burst out laughing.
“I’m serious.” She chuckled. “Go and hang out with that man that’s so obviously into you that he cooked your mother dinner. Don’t be my caregiver tonight. Go and enjoy yourself. I’m good.”
I kissed her forehead before I left her room.
“Okay,” I said to Ty after meeting him back in the kitchen. “Follow me.”
I led him out the back door and down the walking path to my detached garage.
“Your lawn is nice. Do you have someone that cares for it?”
“I have a lawn service. I cut it sometimes, but I pay a company when it gets hot outside.”
“I hear you.”
After entering the unlock code, I pushed the door open.
