“Who cheated on you?”

“The mailman,” I responded then took the phone from my ear to look at it. “Kerem! Who the hell else would I be talking about?” I said, slapping my thigh.

“Girl, whatever. It’s too early in the morning for you to be playing with me!”

“Robin…”

“Oh my God, you’re serious? I’m about to FaceTime you.”

She disconnected the call before I could even respond. Within a couple of seconds, my FaceTime ring tone sounded.

I connected the call.

“Oh my God, Key. Where are you? Have you slept? What happened?”

She asked questions while she moved from her huge kitchen, down her hall, and into her bedroom.

“Babe, I need to talk to Key. Can I have the room?” She spoke to Larenz.

“What’s up, Key?” Larenz said in the background.

“Hey, Peaches,” I chuckled.

“You play too much,” he said. Then I heard a door close.

“Okay, so what happened?” Bird asked with concern etched on her face.

I explained the entire story to her from me finding the text to the text messages I’d received from him when I woke up.

“That dirty dick bastard. I can’t believe he would do something like this! What in the hell was he thinking? Never mind, he wasn’t thinking. What do you want to do? Who is this bitch, and where can we find her?”

“He won’t give me any information, but I know that her initials are TR and she works for the development group that built that new community center on the south side.”

“How do you know that?”

“He told me, but that’s about all he has said about her.”

“Well did you at least memorize her phone number?” Bird asked.

“Of course and I sent it to my phone, so I wouldn’t forget it,” I confidently replied.

“Good girl, that’s more than enough information. Send me her contact information. Hold on, let me get my computer,” she said. After a brief pause, she continued, “Now you said the development group that built the center on the south side?”

“Yes.”

She propped her phone up so I could see her while she worked on her computer. Although Bird was a very successful nurse practitioner, she was also a self-proclaimed private investigator. She could find anyone or anything with a couple of keystrokes. One time she thought Larenz was cheating. By the end of the day, she’d cracked the passcodes on all of his devices and determined that there was nothing to find except a surprise party he was planning for her. She did a horrible job, the day of the party, acting surprised, but no one knew she’d found out all the party’s details, except for me.

I stood from the bed and paced the room, trying to burn off some nervous energy while waiting for the results of her search.

“Okay…” Robin began.

I sat down on the bed, held the phone up straight so that I could see Robin, maxed out the volume, and waited for her to continue.

“The name of that group is the Levitine Group. Their main office is not too far from that community center that Kerem helped get financed. Let me see if they have any pic…bingo. There is a picture of a Tara Randstant on the group’s website. Let me do a reverse phone lookup on this number and see if the names match.”

Tara…Tara, I replayed the name in my head trying to remember if I’d heard Kerem mention her. I couldn’t recall him mentioning anyone by that name.

“Yep, this number is registered to Tara Randstant at 669 Northland Place, Unit 1673. Let me send you this screenshot of this picture.”
