She wiped away her tears before she spoke.

“Yes, Kerem Abdul Abernathy, I will.”

I slid the gold ring with an infinity symbol on top onto her finger.

“I will wear this forever,” she smiled.

“Even after I buy you a real ring?” I questioned.

“Yep, I will wear it on my right hand,” she smiled.

Keeva

Deep in thought, I mindlessly twisted my promise ring around on my right ring finger. I spent the previous days on social media looking at pictures of Tara. I wished I hadn’t learned her name. I had zero self-control when it came to stalking her. I’d seen pictures of her with her mother. I wondered if her mom knew she was a home wrecker. There were pictures of her with her employers. I’d contemplated walking into her job and causing a scene, but I had way more to lose than she did.

I had a dream that I saw her out in the streets and whooped her ass until I was exhausted. I woke up from that dream energized. As much as I hated to admit it, she seemed to have a lot going for herself. If she hadn’t spread her legs for my husband, we might have been able to be friendly. As it stood right now, if I ran into her on the streets, whether she knew me or not, I was fighting her.

“Keeva?” A male voice pulled me from my musings.

“Hey, Morris,” I said while standing to give him a hug.

“What are you doing here?” He asked.

Morris was one of the lawyers that worked at Valentine Law, Samuel’s law firm. Both Averie’s and Samuel’s firms were in the same building. Morris’ dark blue suit, blue shirt, and blue tie were expertly tailored. He’d come a long way since the first time we’d met. He looked nice then, but he’d certainly learned the value of a good tailor. His full black beard rivaled any beard that I’d seen. He kept it meticulously trimmed and groomed. I knew it was soft because the couple of times we’d hugged it brushed my face a little. He had me wanting to ask Kerem to grow one.

“I’m here to speak with Ms. Planter,” I nodded toward the door he’d just emerged from.

“Oh…well Drucilla is a miracle worker. She’s helped me out with my situation with my girls.”

“How are they?” I smiled, thinking about his two beautiful little girls.

“They are good. They are going to be living with me full time now, thanks to Drucilla.”

“That’s so good, Morris,” I smiled. “You’ve been fighting for them since we met just about.”

“Yes, I have. Their mother finally conceded, probably due to the guy she is with. I don’t really care about the reason, I’m just glad she did it. The girls and I moved into a new place close to the school they’ve been accepted to, so all is well. Are you sure you’re okay? I can wait here for you or go with you to speak with Drucilla,” Morris offered.

I blinked back the tears that seemed to be always at the ready.

“No,” I fake smiled. “I’m good. It’s just a conversation for now.”

Morris looked into my eyes for a couple minutes then said, “Okay, I don’t know what’s going on, but you know we are all just upstairs. Don’t hesitate to come and find any of us.”

“I’m okay. I promise, but if there is anything you need for those girls, before care, aftercare or even babysitter recommendations, don’t hesitate to call me, okay? I mean it.”

“I know you do. I will call if I need help the same way you better reach out if you need help,” Morris returned.

We hugged.

“Mrs. Abernathy? Drucilla will see you now,” the perky receptionist announced.

I waved at Morris before turning and following the receptionist into the office of Drucilla Planter, one of the toughest female divorce attorneys around, according to Averie.

“Mrs. Abernathy,” Drucilla said, extending her hand. “I am Drucilla. Please have a seat.”

We shook, and I sat down in one of the clear chairs in front of her glass desk.

Drucilla was dressed in a cream, tailored pants suit with a leopard print shirt underneath. She had on a pair of red stilettos and a wedding ring with a rock the size of my head. She wore a long custom wig unit, with a side part, that fit her height and face perfectly.
