“Tell her what you did,” I yelled while fighting to get out of Averie’s grip.

“Baby, I…I will. Please calm down,” Kerem yelled. “I want to explain!”

“Explain? Fuck you Kerem. Go, die!”

Averie was always stronger than me, but today, I felt strong enough to get past her. I just had to wear her down a little.

“Samuel, please take him out of here,” Averie strained while still fighting to hold me back.

“Come on, man,” Samuel said.

“Baby if we could just…” Kerem started.

“Just go, Kerem,” Averie grunted.

Kerem stood in place, staring at me for a moment before Samuel tapped him on the shoulder, and they walked out of the room. Samuel closed the door behind him.

“He cheated on me, Vee! I told you I could feel something was wrong for a while. He fucked some cruddy, nasty, whore and didn’t have the decency to hide the shit from me.”

“Maybe he was just texting her,” Averie said.

“No, he fucked her. I saw it in the text messages. She said something about wanting to feel him again. She said how much she enjoyed it.”

“Do you think it’s just someone trying to cause a problem?” Averie asked.

“He admitted it! He said it happened once and it was a mistake. I don’t care if it was a mistake or not. Do you know how many dicks I’ve seen, outside of porn, like in real life? One! His! That’s it. I’ve never even considered sleeping with someone else. How could he do this to me? To us?”

The dam of tears finally broke. I fell onto Averie’s shoulder, crying. I just wanted to wake up from this nightmare. I didn’t want to accept that the man that I’d loved since I was thirteen years old had broken our marriage vows and slept with another woman.

After making it out of my bedroom alive, I paced back and forth in the living room, trying to figure out what my next move would be.

“I’m so glad I changed the lock on the gun cabinet. I mean it’s something I do at least once a year for safety reasons, and I always tell Key when I do, but this time I hadn’t gotten around to telling her yet.”

I stopped pacing to look down the hall toward our bedroom, then started walking again. “I have no doubt she would have murdered me as soon as she read my phone.”

“Read your phone? What did your phone say?” Samuel asked.

“Man, it was a text message from a chick I made a mistake with.”

“What does that mean?” Samuel asked.

“I slept with someone else,” I admitted.

“Slept with?” Samuel parroted.

“I had sex with another woman,” I said plainly.

“Is that something you do often?”

“What?” I was offended by the question, but under the circumstances, I really had no room to be. “No, it’s never happened before now.”

“Are you planning on leaving your family for her?”

“Man, what? No, I love my wife. It was an accident.”

“You slipped on a banana peel, and as you tumbled forward your dick accidentally penetrated her?”
