“I don’t know where to go from here, Kerem. I love you. I really do, but I can’t seem to move past this. I want to fight for us, but then I don’t,” she admitted.

“That brings me to my next statement. One thing that I learned at the couple's meeting is that we can’t mend us, living in separate places. I thought that giving you space would help us, but that’s not the best idea, so I am moving back in. I don’t have to sleep in the room with you, but I have to be in the house with you. I am going to fight for this marriage and for you even if you don’t. I am going to fight until you tell me not to fight. I am going to work on rebuilding us stronger and better. I promise you that this will never be a situation for us again.”

“Do I have a say in whether or not you move back in?”

“Yes, you can say that it’s over. You can tell me that you are happier without me here and I will leave. I will pay for both our lawyers and I will give you your space. Is that what you want?”

“No,” she finally answered after several minutes of silence. “I want to try to work on us.”

“I will stay tonight and pick up the rest of my things from the rental tomorrow. I still want us to date. I know that today was not the best first date, but I want to try again. Would you like to try again?”

“Yes, I would like to try again, and I’m sorry too. I shouldn’t have reacted the way I did and I shouldn’t have put you in that position with the Uber driver. I was wrong.”

“Don’t apologize for being human. I was lowkey turned on by the fact that you still would fight over me,” I smiled.

“Kerem, Mr. Valentine is here to see you,” Debbie the receptionist announced.

“Please send him in.”

Samuel had called and made an appointment with my receptionist a few days ago. I didn’t know he had an appointment until I looked at the schedule today.

“Kerem,” he said while extending his hand.

I offered mine, and we shook.

“Samuel,” I said and motioned to the chairs at a table in the corner.

“Thank you for seeing me today,” he said.

“No, problem,” I responded. “I’m glad you’re here so I can thank you in person for getting Keeva backstage to meet Lyrica.”

I had reached out to Samuel because I knew he knew Ezekiel Bluette, who was the musical director for Lyrica’s concert. I knew it was a long shot to ask for such a huge favor, but I asked anyway. Fortunately, Ezekiel was able to not only get the ladies backstage, but they spent some intimate time with Lyrica.

“That’s what family does. How is everything going?” Samuel responded.

“I moved back into the house. We’ve agreed that we are going to date and try to mend our relationship. Our first date was a little adventurous, but we are going to keep trying until we get it right.”

“What made it adventurous?”

“Keeva and I ran into ol’ girl.”

“Oh, that happened on your date? Key called Averie and had her all riled up. Averie actually thought I was going to let her out of the house, pregnant and all, to go and handle somebody,” Samuel chuckled.

“Those Patterson women will stick together no matter what,” I laughed.

“I’m glad you and Key are working on things. Family is important to me. We all make mistakes, but it takes a real one to work hard to fix those mistakes. I admire that about you,” Samuel said.

“I appreciate that,” I returned.

“I actually didn’t come here to talk about family, though. I wanted to run something by you.”

I sat up in my seat.

“Okay.”

“I am starting a corporation, The Valentine Corporation. All of my businesses and ventures will fall under the umbrella of that corporation. I’ve purchased some land to build affordable housing, I want to partner with businesses that are willing to move into these new neighborhoods to service the community, and I want several resource and community centers. I had my accountant put together some numbers for me, and I wanted to run them by you along with a proposition.”
