“I know you might not want to hear this now, but I can’t…I can’t keep it to myself anymore.”

The hairs at the nape of her neck and on her forearms stood at attention as goose bumps prickled her skin in anticipation.

“I miss you… I miss our friendship. It was so easy to talk to you, and that’s something I’ve not felt in over ten years,” the man before her, raking his hand through his hair, revealed.

Andrea waited with bated breath.

“I really like you, Andrea. I mean a lot. I know you might be hesitant, but somehow I think that you feel this connection that I’ve felt for you from the very beginning.”

“Donny…” she started but couldn’t continue. She didn’t know what to say.

“Tell me it’s a lie, that you don’t feel it, and I promise I’ll leave you alone,” he implored.

Andrea sighed warily. “It’s not that simple, Donny, you know that.”

“Nothing in life is simple, not if you want it to mean something,” he stepped in to say.

Andrea pursed her lips as she cast a doubtful look at him.

“Please, just give me a chance, Drea. Go on a date with me, and we’ll take it from there,” he pleaded.

She wanted to say yes, to see where this thing could take them, but she couldn’t, not right away. She needed to sort out her relationship with her daughter.

“I’ll think about it.”
