“One day, my sun went away

The moon refused to rise

The stars imploded

One day my world stopped turning, and I didn’t know if

I would ever feel the wind on my face again or

The waters between my toes

The grains of sand grazing my fingertips

Then you crashed into me like a whirlwind on a normally windless day

And you brought with you the sun, the moon, and the stars

How could I ever try to resist?

When you brought with you everything I was missing

But never knew I could ever get back

Now that you’re with me like this

I can’t imagine a life and you not in it

A song and you aren’t the muse

A carefree thought, and it doesn’t echo your name

I love you in this season, and I know I will love you out of season

I will love you until the end of time.”

Andrea could not contain the tears that flowed down her face as her heart bubbled with the joy she felt at finding someone that valued her so much.

“If I knew this was the reaction I would have gotten, I would have thought twice about sharing it,” Donny murmured, unsure. “Drea, please don’t cr—”

Andrea cupped his face and kissed him deeply, willing him to feel how moved she was by his poem and how much she felt for him.

“I guess that means I’ll be writing a whole lot more then.”

The two had burst into laughter at the comment before she peppered his face with her kisses once more.

For the remainder of the picnic, the two talked, joked, and cuddled.

When Donny dropped her off at home, Andrea couldn’t help the smile she’d been sporting since the picnic.

“Someone’s happy, happy,” Cora observed.

“I am,” she confirmed.

Cora grinned as she pulled her sister toward the kitchen. “You have to tell me everything that happened on your little love picnic.”

“What’s happening?” Josephine, who was already seated around the island, asked.

“Drea is going to tell us about her magical time with Donny,” Cora replied.

“Okay, this calls for Ben and Jerry’s ice cream,” Josephine said excitedly, removing the tub of ice cream from the freezer.

Cora went to the drawer and removed three spoons. She handed one to each sister, and they sat scooping the frozen treat into their mouths.

The sisters sat listening to Andrea recount the time she had with Donny and how much she felt as if this was the start of something lasting.

“Oh, I can’t wait for another little niece or nephew that I can get to spoil,” Cora gushed.

Andrea reared back in horror. “Whoa, Cora, slow down a little. Who said anything about babies?”

The three of them carried on laughing and sharing stories. Andrea had never imagined this happening. It was funny how things always worked out. She was just grateful to be home with her family.
