“Okay,” Becky accepted.

“You said this was a tradition?” Jo weighed in.

“Yeah, it was. What you girls aren’t aware of is that when Sam was alive, we had these weekend get-togethers regularly until it became a tradition. Most of the family usually showed up as long as they weren’t busy or had other engagements. We play poker for dimes and quarters, a few other cards and board games, and Maria and I serve our famous beef stew and dumplings. We thought that, now that you girls are back and things have settled down that we should revive these get-togethers,” he clarified.

“Wow, really?” Jo asked, surprised that the rest of the family had remained so close even after her, Andrea, and Cora’s departure from the island. “That’s wonderful.”

“Stew’s ready,” Aunt Maria announced to everyone as she stepped outside, wearing an apron.

“Great, the picnic table is all set up,” Andrew spoke up. “I guess it’s time to take this party there.”

Everyone nodded their agreement, walked down the stairs, and made their way to the side of the house where the tables were set up overlooking the harbor.
