“I’ll see you in English class, Ally.”

???

I go back to finishing my meal before I make my way to the bathroom to break the seal. As soon as I stand, I know I’m too tipsy to drive home. Thankfully it’s only eight and Jeremy should still be up. I would call Isabelle, but I know she is working. I dial Jeremy and hope he can come get me because I really don’t want to call my mother.

“Hey, Allison, what’s up?”

“So, I think I drank a little too much at dinner and was hoping you would come to bring me home.” I hear the laughter in the background and wonder who he is with.

“I’m working but can swing by in five minutes to pick you up in the cruiser. Where are you?”

“Little Ricky’s, thank you so much, Jeremy. You’re the best, I’m so glad Isabelle has such a great guy with her. All the other men are gross little ass wipes who…” I hear someone say hey in the background. He must be with Jared, his partner, Isabelle tried to set me up on a date with him before. He is cute but I’m not looking for anyone right now.

“Okay, while I would love to see where that was going, I have to get off the phone. I’ll see you in five minutes.”

“I appreciate you!” I hear him laughing at my remark.

“I know. Bye Al.”

I sit back down at my table, and I see the boredom on Andrew’s face at whatever Jasmine is talking about. I can’t help but start laughing because that is what he gets for taking my replacement out on a date. I pay my bill and start to walk out the front door when a hand comes down on my wrist.

“Hey, do you think you should be driving? You hand three glasses of wine.”

I see the true concern in his eyes, and I know it is a glimpse of old Andrew, but I need to let the scene of Jane and him come in to stop from falling for it. Being drunk makes that memory fuzzy and it’s not here right now to help me.Damn that wine! I really need to stop drinking.

“I’m not driving, you can go back to your date.”

I gesture towards the table where Jasmine is sitting by herself eating dinner. I’m surprised she isn’t staring at us unless he told her he was going to the bathroom and snuck out here.

“I didn’t know you would be here. I’m sorry.”

It’s funny because when he says those two words they don’t register. He has said them so many times I think I’m desensitized from them, from him at least.

“Don’t apologize, go have your date. I’m fine.” Coming to the rescue is Jeremy’s police cruiser. He pulls up to the curb and I start to walk towards the car.

“Hey Andrew.” Jeremy rolls the window down and waves to him.

“Thanks for taking her home, I appreciate it!”

I try with everything in my power to not throw up right there. I don’t know if it’s the alcohol coming back up or the fact that Andrew is acting like he cares about me.

“Of course. See you around.”

Jeremy rolls the window back up and as we are driving away, I see Andrew go sit back down with Jasmine. He smiles at her and seems to be actually enjoying himself with me not around. When Jeremy drops me off at home, I somehow make it to my bed and crash for the night.

Chapter Eleven

Iwake up to my alarm going off and I hit snooze and roll out of bed. Yesterday was spent packing and trying to understand Andrew. He acted so weird Saturday night and I know I should forget it, but it plays in my head whether I want it to or not. Today is the start of my last week in New York and I couldn’t be more excited. It will probably be weird to see Jasmine, but I don’t hold any hard feelings. I’m divorced and Andrew and I are free to date whoever we please.

I arrive at the office early to catch up on everything and to show Christian that I’m still an asset to his company. With Jasmine here, I’m a bit worried that he will drop me as soon as she gets the ropes. I could probably get a new job in Baltimore, but that added stress would be nice to avoid. I finish the last of things when Christian walks in at eight.

“You’re here early Allison.” I smile up at him and I start to feel sad. I’m going to miss working with him every day, he is such a great boss and I consider him a dear friend now.

“Just wanted to catch up on all the weekend things before Jasmine comes in.”

“How is she doing?”

“Good, she is catching on pretty fast. Can I ask you something?” I see his eyebrow raise when a smile forms on his face.
