“I’m home babe.”

I know I should tell him I got in, but I’m going to wait for the letter in the mail. It should give me some time to hopefully convince myself that this is the way my life should go. Andrew appears in the doorway of the kitchen and sees me cooking dinner.

“Any word from school yet?” I smile at him and all his glory with his suit on as he slowly loosens his tie and places it on the island.

“Not yet, I should be getting the letter any day now.” I feel terrible lying to my husband, but it’s not that big of a lie, I’m just delaying a little.

“Dinner smells delicious honey! How was your day?”

He makes his way over to me and places a kiss on my cheek. He wraps his arms around my waist and sways with me as I stir the meat sauce for spaghetti. He tells alexa to play our wedding song and “you make it easy” by Jason Aldean plays through the speaker. I can’t hide my smile when I turn around and place my arms around his neck and we dance to the song completely forgetting about dinner. I place my head on his chest as we dance together in our kitchen. He plants a kiss on top of my head and then dips me like he did at our wedding. I can’t hold my laughter in when he brings me back up to his face and kisses me.

“I love you so much Allison” He kisses me again and all my worry subsides, I don’t know how this man does this to me.

“I love you Andrew.”

???

Christian hangs up the phone and then looks at me with sad eyes. I hate that everyone is acting like they will never see me again.

“I wanted to thank you for the balloons and the card.”

“Of course, even though you are leaving me. I’m still so happy that you are doing what you’re passionate about.”

“You don’t know how much I appreciate your support!”

“You’re a great worker, Allison; I have no doubt you will put your all into anything you do. I’ll be one of the first people to buy your book when it comes out.”

I can’t help but laugh and stand to give him a hug. When we break our hug and I turn around, Andrew is standing in the doorway of Christian’s office. I try to bring back the memory of him and Jane after just having a glimpse into the old Andrew. Memories can be the best and worst thing about a relationship. I love that I have memories like that but thinking about the good times and realizing that they aren’t in the present hurts. I swallow and make the memory come to the front so I’m not longing for a man that no longer exists.

“Thank you again, Christian! Hey Andrew.” I wave and then make my way past Andrew and to my desk. Jasmine is at her desk when I get back and she is eyeing the balloons and card on my desk.

“Last day, how are you feeling?”

“Surprisingly excited. Don’t get me wrong, I love it here, but I’m so excited to start over.”

She nods and points to the balloons.

“From Christian, I’m presuming?”

“Yeah, he is a great boss. You’ll love working for him!”

“He talks so highly of you; I can only hope he does the same for me.” I smile at her remark and then Andrew and Christian make their way to the front of the office. Andrew looks at me nervously and then at Jasmine and smiles at her.

“I’ll be here at four to pick you up.” She stands and he gives her a quick kiss on the lips before turning to walk for the door. As he’s turning, I get a glimpse of his eyes when he glances at me before leaving the office.

“Awkward.” Jasmine and I laugh at Christian’s outburst.

Chapter Thirteen

Iput on my tight red dress and do my makeup and hair. As I’m putting my boots on, Isabelle comes down the stairs to see if I’m ready.

“Oh, hot damn girl!”

“You think so? I figured I’d go all out since it’s my last hurray here kind of.”

“If I wasn’t going to get married in a few months, I would ask you to be mine.”

She blows out a breath like I’m smoking hot. I can’t help but laugh at her. I take in her outfit and it’s so Izzy. She has on a beautiful sundress even though its August and the weather is getting colder. We both are probably going to freeze our asses off but at least we look hot doing it. When we arrive at Ilene’s house, she kisses Maci goodbye and heads to the car as Maci climbs up her grandma’s leg like a damn monkey. That kid kills me, I can’t believe she is starting preschool soon.
