“You ready to get drunk bitches?” Jeremy turns around from the driver’s seat and raises an eyebrow at her remark.

“Sorry forgot you were in here. Ready to go have a nice, relaxed ladies’ night?”

We both laugh at her and even Jeremy cracks a smile too. Ilene is wearing tight jeans and a shirt with a v-neckline that shows off her rack. She gives a little tease but also enough to make them wonder, we all look so different and it’s the perfect trio. We arrive at the club, and all get out, Izzy gives Jeremy a kiss and then turns to us.

“Call me when you guys need a ride home okay?”

“Will do deputy!”

Izzy and I laugh at Ilene and nod our heads in Jeremy’s direction. He pulls away and we make our way inside the club. It’s pretty busy for a Thursday night and the loud music engulfs you as soon as you step inside. We head to the bar and order our drinks, Izzy gets some fruity drink, I order my jack and coke and Ilene gets bourbon. The music shifts to some oldie songs and we grab our drinks and head to the dance floor.

Then the song changes to “take me home” by Bebe Rexha and we kind of freak out a bit because it’s the perfect song to dance to. We are jumping and dancing with each other, just letting our bodies get taken over by the music. I see that we are drawing attention by how much fun we’re having but we don’t care because it is just the three of us. Just like it used to be in High school, the three of us dancing to music in Isabelle’s bedroom while trying to not wake her parents up. Ilene goes back to the bar to order us more drinks while Izzy and I continue to lose ourselves in the music. I can’t remember the last time I felt this relaxed.

Ilene gets back with hands full of drinks and we all take a sip when the song changes and we all look at each other when the beat starts. It takes everything in us to not scream because this is the song we used every time we would secretly dirty dance together. We were teenagers then so we would try to hide it from our parents, but we are adults now and letting loose. “Turn me on” by Kevin Lyttle is playing and we all start swinging our hips to his words. We are singing the song to each other and even Ilene is letting her hips move in a seductive way towards me. We all grind on each other trying not to spill our drinks as we swing each other around. A few guys come and approach us and start dancing with us.

Isabelle is a bit reserved, but she is dancing with us and the guy that’s near her gets the point and is surprisingly respectable with his hands. My guy has his hands on my hips and is swaying with me. Ilene is laughing as she and this guy are dancing. When the song ends, we are all out of breath and the guys seem impressed.

“You ladies know how to dance!” We all look at each other and smile at them.

“Thanks, what’s your name?”

My guy answers first and tells me that his name is spencer. He is gorgeous with his tan skin and grey eyes, he’s taller than all of the guys and very muscular. The guy that was dancing with Izzy tells us his name is Brad. He seems to be the shyest of the three of them and reminds me a lot of Izzy if I’m being honest. Makes sense why he was so reserved with her earlier, but she would have shut that shit down anyway. Her and Jeremy are relationship goals and neither of them would jeopardize each other. The guy that is still flirting with Ilene is Elliot and he seems just like her type. He looks like your typical bad boy with both arms covered in tattoos and long dark brown hair slicked back.

“What about you ladies?”

We all introduce ourselves and continue to dance with them after getting more drinks. It’s weird to meet guys that aren’t all touchy at the club. If I wasn’t leaving tomorrow, I honestly might have jumped on the opportunity to be with Spencer. He is absolutely gorgeous, and I haven’t gotten laid in so damn long.

I see Ilene give Elliot her number before we leave, and Jeremy brings us home around twelve. I surprisingly am not wasted but I had a good buzz going so I still pass right out when I get home.

Chapter Fourteen

Today is the day! I Wake up and put comfy clothes on since I’ll be in the truck most of the day. It’s a little over five hours to get to Baltimore from here. I plan on leaving around eleven so I can get to my apartment around dinner time. I had the most vivid dream about Dexter last night again but this one was different. It didn’t take place in his classroom for once. I have no idea where we were, but we didn’t fuck, he made love to me while telling me how much he has longed for me. I woke up feeling like that had actually happened, when I rolled over to see that I was still alone in bed, I was annoyed.

I hate that I don’t know where he is in life, I know that may seem kind of stalkerish, but I considered him a friend, so it sucks that I can’t check up on him from time to time through social media. I let out a breath and take a turn around the place that I’ve been living for the past few months and how empty it looks from my things being gone. Isabelle is working today and so is Jeremy, so the house is empty, and I said my goodbyes to everyone yesterday. My mom was crying on the phone until I told her that I planned on coming back in a few weeks for a weekend.

I get the rest of my little things in the truck and make sure I have everything before I lock up the house and leave to start my life over somewhere new with new experiences!

???

I don’t remember there being this many steps when I first saw the apartment a few weeks ago. I’ve only carried two boxes up, but I still have all my heavy boxes left that are filled with my books. I probably have a few hundred books that I was not leaving behind regardless of how limited I am on space in my new place. Some of them have been in the boxes since I left Andrew and I can’t wait to let them out to breathe. I plan to line the left wall of the living room with bookcases, so I have more storage.

I’m on the last box when I can feel the sweat beading around my forehead even though it’s only seventy degrees out today. I call the number so the U-Haul will get picked up and plop down in my new apartment and tears start running down my face. I don’t know if they’re happy tears or sad tears.

“I did it!”

All I know is that I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be right now. It may have taken me longer than I thought but I am finally doing what I want to do. I look around at all the boxes that I need to unpack and decided that take out is going to have to be dinner tonight. I call to the restaurant downstairs and order my sweet and sour chicken with lo mein noodles. I run down the stairs to pick it up ten minutes later and eat it while listening to music on my alexa. I unpacked one box which was just my electronics and chargers.

After dinner I plan to unpack the rest and stay up as late as I need to. I want to go explore Baltimore tomorrow instead of spending the day inside. It’s around ten when I finally finish unpacking everything. I stack my books against the blank wall where the bookcases are going to go. Maybe tomorrow I should pick those up, so my books aren’t just lying there. I head to bed so hopeful for tomorrow for once.

My phone ping is what wakes me up instead of my alarm and it’s a message from Isabelle.

“How was your first night at your place?” I smile at her message and roll on my back and stretch my full body in my new bedroom.

“Amazing, I can’t wait to finish decorating it and have you over.”

“Sounds like a plan, I’m so proud of you Al.”

“Love you <3”
