I stand and start putting my things in my bag before leaving class to head home to work a little more for Christian.

“Ally, can I see you for a moment please?”shit, no…yes!

I look around at the students filing out of the room and make my way towards the front of the room where Dex is.Professor Laclaire!I don’t know why I’m so nervous to talk to him after all this time. He seems to be the same guy I use to stay after school with all those years ago, but I don’t know if it’s appropriate now. We are older now and of course if my dreams were to come true, I wouldn’t complain, but he is still my teacher! I raise my hand and do a slow wave of my hand towards him like a total dweb.

“What can I do for you Dex?”I didn’t mean to call him that. Shit back pedal Ally!

“Sorry, I meant professor Laclaire.”

“So that is you.” I see a smile on his face when he gets his confirmation. I return the smile, but I know my cheeks are still red from embarrassing myself.

“I didn’t realize you worked here.”

“Been here for a few years now, it’s so good to see you here.” I let out a laugh.

“Took me only seven years.” I see the confusion on his face when I say that, and I immediately want to take it back. I’m an adult now and am supposed to have my shit together.

“Time doesn’t matter as long as you’re doing what you love.”

“Yeah, well I should probably get going home.” I point to the door and slowly turn towards it.

“I liked your paper by the way! I was hoping it was you that wrote it, it reminded me to much of you for it to not be you.”Did he say he was hoping for me to be in his class?

I stop turning towards the door and turn back to face him and it takes everything in my body to not hug him for that. I haven’t heard his voice in so long and even though my friends tell me all the time, it’s different coming from him. His support has more effect on me than anyone else.

“Thank you Mr. Lac…”

“Dex is fine, Ally.” I smile at him and try to break this tension between us. My stupid ass reaches out for a damn handshake from him.

“Thank you, Dex.”

He shakes my hand and has the biggest smirk on his face that shows his dimples. He’s gotten more muscular or at least is filling out his shirts more. He looks down at our hands that I’m stupidly still shaking. He raises his eyebrow when his eyes move up to my wrist where my mockingbird tattoo is and then licks those damn lips again. I break the awkward handshake first and pull my hand back to my side.

“Well, I really should get going. Unless there’s anything else you need.”

He shakes his head and smiles at me, and I swear this room is a hundred degrees because I feel like his gaze is melting me. I turn towards the door and place my hand on the doorknob and turn it to open the door. This is in my dream all the time and I hesitate for a moment to see if he is going to stop me and take me here on his desk. Unfortunately, my dreams are not coming true today!

Chapter Sixteen

Igot all my schoolwork done last night surprisingly. Today is for Christian and the office, I have class alternating days, so I work Tuesdays and Thursdays. I’m going to try to work as much as I can to show him how appreciative I am for him keeping me on, but Tuesdays and Thursday are usually the busiest for some reason. I email Jasmine back on a few things and proofread the motions she has drafted before sending them to Christian for final approval before filing some of the cases online.

I check my phone to see a message from Ilene checking up on me to see how I’m liking my classes.

Ilene:Meet any cute guys in your classes?

Me:No, but you will never guess who my damn professor is!

Ilene:Mr. Dreamy Dexter Laclaire.

Me:YES!

Ilene:Wait for real? I was only joking.

Me:Yeah, I was shocked at first too, but I guess he has been working here for a few years now.

Ilene:That move was well worth it then ??

Me:Oh stop, it doesn’t mean anything.
