Somehow, I was able to get some sleep last night with my libido through the roof. I surprisingly didn’t have a dream last night which was disappointing. I make myself a cup of coffee and bagel when my phone rings.

“Good morning, Aunt Al” I can’t help but smile when I hear Maci’s sweet voice on the other end of the phone. I look over at the clock and it’s only seven in the morning.

“Good morning young lady. What are you doing awake so early?” I hear her giggling on the other end and hear Ilene scrambling to get her things together.

“I have to go to the sitter’s silly. Guess what?”

“What silly girl?”

“I start school today!” She is screaming with excitement, and I have to pull the phone away from my ear, so I don’t go deaf.

“That’s great little lady. You’re going to have so much fun.”

“Do you have school today too? Mommy said you went back to school, I bet we both are going to get to play recess if we’re good.” I hear Ilene in the background laughing and I swear I hear Dexter’s name come out of her mouth.

“Maybe, so we better be on our best behavior then! I can’t wait to hear all about it tomorrow honey.”

“Okay, love you aunt Al.”

“Love you to baby girl.” I hear muffled noises on the other end of the phone and then Ilene’s voice before I bring the phone back to my ear.

“Hey so any luck yet?”

“Luck with what?

“With your forbidden love man.”

“Oh, good lord. You guys are ridiculous.” I hear her laughing after telling Maci to go brush her teeth.

“Hey, I’m just saying, him being here after all this time has to be some kind of sign. You’ve been carrying a torch for this man for years and now he’s right here in front of you. Do something about it women!”

I sigh at her remark, it’s not like I can march right up to him and tell him how much I’ve liked him, maybe even loved him after all this time and expect him to just go with it. Plus, I told myself not to rush into another relationship after just getting my freedom back.

“It’s not that easy. I don’t know anything about his life anymore. We are just starting to get to know each other again and dinner was kind of awkward so…”

“What do you mean dinner?”Oops, I didn’t mean to say anything about dinner.

“Did you go on a date with him already? Girl, I'm proud!”

“It wasn’t a date, we just happened to be eating at the same restaurant last night and our orders got messed up. So, we just kind of ate together.” I say the last part in a sort of whisper.

“Jesus, please tell me you don’t still think this is a coincidence.”

“I don’t know to be honest, but I can’t just go up to him and jump his bones. He’s my professor Ilene!”

“And? You know Izzy and I aren’t getting laid. So do us both a favor and go for it!” I hear Maci ask what getting laid means and I can’t contain my laughter when Ilene tries to back track our conversation.

“I should finish getting ready. Good luck with getting yourself out of that one. I love you”

“Okay, but I’m serious Al. Go for it! I love you to!”

I finish my breakfast and think about what Ilene said. It makes me think about what Dex said last night.I’m always making sure you’re okay. What did he mean by that? He doesn’t have a social media so how would he check up on me. I need to not think too into it or else he will become a major distract. I’m here to get my master’s degree and follow my dreams. But Dex is part of those dreams…

I try to focus on the tasks that I need to get done today instead of thinking about that man. I’m an independent woman now and I need to make sure nothing happens to compromise that. The revelation of all I’ve gone through was coming out the other side not needing another person’s approval when I want to do something.

I really wish I could choose what classes I wanted to take. My intro to fiction class is kind of boring and poetry class is basically just reading and history on famous poets. I’m not good with poetry so hopefully I can still ace the class with enough studying. It one o’clock now and Dexter’s class isn’t until two. I look outside and see willow park down a few blocks. With my bag by my side, I walk to my new favorite spot and plop down under the branches.

Today is kind of windy but the leaves are protecting me from the cold. I pull out my Caesar salad and start to eat while also reading one of my books for Poetry. We had to choose a poet we wanted to research and choose one of their poems to analyze deeper. Of course, I chose Edgar Allan Poe. I feel like some of his work is just so cryptic with what he means and is going to be interpreted different by the readers. I love when a writer can do that! After I finish lunch, I send Izzy a text reminding her I don’t need the plus one and to just mark me down for one person.
