Isabelle gets home at six and we leave as soon as she changes since our reservation is for seven. I’m surprised we made it to Ilene’s in time with the number of hugs I was getting from her.
“So how has everything been with school and other things?” Ilene raises her eyebrows up and down in a hint to get me to talk about Dexter. I laugh at her before replying.
“Everything is great, midterms are going to be crazy. Besides that, I’m balancing school and work pretty good so far.”
“What about Dexter?” I clear my throat at Isabelle’s question.
“What about him?” They both turn their heads to look straight at me and then tilt their heads like they’re judging my response.
“You know what she meant?” I sigh at both of them. They are so nosey, but I guess that is what makes them such great friends.
“He’s good, he’s still going to your wedding Izzy.”
They both laugh and I swat at them to stop.Just wait until dinner when you tell them about this morning.I push that thought to the back of my head before I start to blush in front of them. We arrive at Little Ricky’s, and I can’t help but laugh when I realize this was the last place I ate before I left here and now, I’m back and it’s the first place I go. Our waiter seats us near the front windows and we settle in and get to spilling all the details of what we have been up to since we all already know what we are getting.
“How is Maci with school so far?” Ilene’s eyes brighten up and she is smiling.
“She already is friends with everyone in her damn class. I’m going to need to get a bigger house if I have to host the play dates.”
Izzy and I laugh and then our waiter arrives to take our order. Isabelle orders their famous chicken riggies and Ilene orders her eggplant parmesan, they both turn to me after I tell the waiter what I want, and they raise their eyebrows with curiosity.
“What? I wanted to switch it up.” I felt like I would kind of be betraying my body if I got chicken alfredo when Mama Gino’s has the best so far. Little Ricky’s is still good, but not the best.
“Cheese pizza at an Italian restaurant?”
I laugh at Izzy and can’t help but think of when I said the same thing to Dex the first time, I ran into him outside of school. I can tell I’m blushing and Ilene notices. I wait for her to push it further, but she just sits back and smirks at me.
“What have you been up to Izzy?
Ilene changes the subject and I try to not think about Dex before I have to. Just the thought of him brings me back to this morning and I can’t be thinking about hot sex with my professor when I’m having dinner with my friends. Izzy looks excited but also nervous to answer that question.
“I’ve been looking into maybe going back to school.” I’ve already known that Isabelle has wanted to become a nurse practitioner, but I don’t think she has told Jeremy yet about wanting to do it now.
“Have you applied to any yet?” I smile at Ilene when she asks that. No matter what we suggest we want to do, we are always there to support one another. I think that’s why we have been friends after all this time.
“No, not yet. I need to discuss it with Jeremy first. I don’t want to rush it with the wedding coming up and the honeymoon. I’m just trying to plan it, maybe in a few years.” I reach across the table to grab her hand.
“Izzy that’s great!” She smiles at both of us and then our food arrives.Tell them now!
“There’s actually something I wanted to tell you guys.” Both of them look up from their plates with mouths full of food.
“You guys’ can’t say anything if I tell you, because we are keeping it a secret for now.” I see their frowns slowly form and Ilene speaks up first.
“Are you and Andrew working on getting back together? Please tell me no! If you are of course ill support you because I love you, but please say no.” I laugh.
“Oh goodness no. that ship has sailed!”Has it though?My thoughts bring me back to earlier and the conversation we had at my mom’s about him still wearing his ring.
“It’s Mr. Laclaire, isn’t it?” Ilene chokes on the bite of her food.
“Please tell me you finally slept with him.” My cheeks are warm, and I know I’m blushing now because this morning comes back in a rush. Izzy gasps and Ilene has the biggest grin on her face.
“Details, right now.” I shake my head.
“You are ridiculous. Even if I did hypothetically sleep with him, I’m not telling you the details.” Ilene sighs.
“So, what does that mean for the two of you then?”
“We are just keeping it between us since it would obviously be frowned upon in school. I think he could lose his job if people found out he was dating a student.” Ilene burrows her eyebrows.
