Page 68 of The Reason

He smiles and says nothing as he connects our bodies by the lips. The sparks that shoot through my body at that time prove that he is here for a reason and that the reason is me. We are meant to be in this exact spot at this exact time, with each other and no one else.

“All the good in my life is because of you!”

“Ally.” He says in a shallow breath.

“I’m serious Dex. All this time I was searching for love, and I thought I had found it, but you were right in front of me this whole time! I’m sorry about the library.”

He looks into my eyes with his glossy ones and grabs my cheeks before kissing me again.

“Let’s go!”

He helps me pack up my things and head to his car.

“Where are we going?” He laughs at my question.

“You really don’t like surprises, do you?” I shrug.

“Only from you.” I wink at him.

It takes forty minutes for us to reach where we are going. Dexter pulls his car into a driveway with this gorgeous Victorian house with a wraparound porch with a swing hanging in the octagon corner of the porch. This is not the house I would have pegged him to live in, but it is everything I had been dreaming about as a child. He wasn’t kidding when he said you can’t see the neighbors from his place.

“Why are we here?”

“The offer still stands.” He puts his hands up in his defense.

“I know you said we took things to fast at the beginning, but I can’t help but feel like we have been together for years instead of months. You get me better than anyone else Ally and I would love for you to move in with me…if you still want to.”

“Are you trying to use the charm of the house to persuade me?”

He smiles and leads me to the giant oak front door with gorgeous stained glass. I almost cave before we even get inside the house. When he opens the door, I gasp, and I swear my brain forgets to breath for me. There is a beautiful grand staircase in front of me that I can picture our kids running down on Christmas morning, and the woodwork on the arches of each doorway are this beautiful dark oak. I look down at the floor and can tell that they are original to the house and that makes me appreciate the home even more. The sparkle on the wood makes me look up to the crystal chandelier right above the doorway.

“What do you think?” I gape at him.

“I think you’re definitely using the beauty of this home to coerce me.”

He laughs before bringing me around the house. It’s all so exquisite and every room has its own character. I can picture my self-living here and raising a family here. To be honest, I saw that the moment I walked through the door, but I didn’t say anything to Dex about it. He brings me toward the back of the house to these gorgeous double doors and when he opens them, I feel dizzy like I’m going to faint.

“Dex! Is this…”

“I call it my study, but yeah, it’s more like a mini library. Minus the books, your collection would fit in here perfectly.”

All the walls are lined with bookcases besides the back wall which has a window looking out into the back yard where the pond is. I can’t hold back anymore, and I jump into Dexter’s arms and kiss him.

“Yes. Yes. Yes!”

“I’m sorry, what was that?” He smiles up at me.

“Yes, I’ll move in with you, but on one condition.”

“Name it.”

“What’s the J stand for in your name?” He laughs.

“That’s it?” I nod at him.

“It’s not fair that you know mine and I don’t know yours.”

“Joseph.” I smile and then throw my head back with a laugh so strong that it makes my eyes water.
