“My mother, yes.” He raises one of his eyebrows.

“What about your father.” I clear my throat.

“He doesn’t really act like he is there most of the time. So, it’s not worth getting excited for.” His expression changes toward me,pity, and I wish he didn’t ask about my father. I told him about my parents, but I left out how my father has been for a reason.

“I’m sorry Ally.” I shrug my shoulders.

“I’ve gotten used to it by now.” He shakes his head.

“But you shouldn’t have had to get use to that.”

I kiss him and the thought of how he will be as a father comes across my mind and makes me blush. We get to my parents around one and Dex helps me carry our bags to the front door. My heart is racing when we get there, and Dex finally reaches around me to ring the doorbell. I was going to knock but I froze and just stood there like an idiot. What if they recognize him and freak out because he was my teacher in high school?I try to push the thought away when Dexter turns me toward him.

“You, okay?” I nod but it doesn’t convince my brain to shut up. Dex puts our bags down and places his hands on my shoulders.

“Ally don’t hide from me. I know when something is bothering you.” I sigh.

“What if they recognize you?” A smile slowly forms on his face.

“You’re afraid they will find out that you’re a naughty girl fucking her English teacher.” I smack his shoulder and gape at him.

“Stop it, what if they hear you.”

“We are adults now Ally. They can’t tell you who should make you orgasm.” I smirk up at him and pinch him.

“There it is. That’s the smile I was hoping for.”

We both look at the cars in the driveway and then back at the door that still hasn’t opened yet. I knock on the door again and this time I hear my mother ask my father to see who is at the front door. Then I hear heavy footsteps becoming louder and Dex wraps his arm around my waist and pulls me into him. The door opens and my father stands there with a beer in his hand and looks us both up and down and then slides to the side without saying a word and motions for us to come in.

“Your mother is in the kitchen.”

“Hello to you to dad.” I swallow after that snarky remark actually comes out of my mouth. Ive never actually spoken up to my father before.

“Who’s this?”

My mother rounds the corner wiping her hands on the washcloth tucked into her apron. She has a huge smile on her face when she sees me and then sees Dexter putting our bags near the door and making his way back to my side. Dexter reaches his hand out to my father before I can answer his question and introduces himself. My father nods and then makes his way to the living room. I look up at him and mouth I’m sorry to him. He winks at me, and we make our way towards my mother.

Before Dexter can introduce himself to my mother, she wraps her arms around me and squeezes me. Then she releases me and makes her way over to Dexter and does the same thing to him. I’m expecting him to be caught off guard, but he seems to relax in my mother’s arms. Was he just as nervous of my parents accepting him as I was?The thought makes my stomach flutter.

“And you must be Dexter. Ive heard so much about you!” Dexter tilts his head and then eyes me with a smile.

“I don’t know if I should be relieved or tell you not to believe everything that was said.” My mother laughs and we all make our way into the kitchen.

“It smells delicious Mrs. Pierce.” My mother smiles and then eyes me and raises her eyebrows u and down and it takes everything in me to contain my laughter.

“Do you need any help with anything mom?” She motions her head to the bag of potatoes on the counter.

“Would you mind cutting the potatoes for me?” I nod and then look at Dexter leaning against the arch way watching me interact with my mom.

“I’ll be right back; I want to put our bags in your room. Where is it?”

“I’ll show you really quick, then I peel the potatoes mom.”

“Okay honey.”

I take dexter to my room upstairs and to the right. It looks the same it did when I was still in high school. Thankfully I had a queen-sized bed then because I don’t think we would have fit on my twin mattress I had until senior year. He plops our bags on my bed and turns in a full circle to take in my room. I laugh when he looks at all the movie posters plastering the wall.

“It hasn’t really changed much since I left home. I think my mother doesn’t want to change a thing because then it will be real for her that I actually moved out. Crazy right?”
