“Can I help with lunch?” Lia asks.

“Sure. Lia and I are on kitchen duty. You two unload the truck.”

Both my friends grumble, but they do as I ask. I start unloading the box of groceries that one of the guys must have brought in. We don’t exactly do healthy when we’re out here, but we don’t do all junk food either. I pull out pasta, cheese, a jar of sauce and put the pot of water on to boil.

“How can I help? Can I make the salad?”

I laugh. “We didn’t bring salad fixings, Lia.”

“I did.”

And that has me wondering about a few things. “When did you talk to your mom about coming to the cabin?”

“A few days ago. Things blew up between me and Jake this week. I told him we’re done, but he keeps calling me.”

“After he cheated on you? Does he really expect you to take him back?”

“Yes. He says he was doing it to save our relationship.”

That brings a laugh out of me. “Well, that’s a new one. He’s not even pretending to be sorry about it?”

“Well, he said if he wasn’t getting it from me, that he needed to get it from somewhere.”

That stops me in my tracks. I turn and look at Lia. “So he had a sex quota you had to meet, or he was going to find it somewhere else?”

“It’s not like he had a high sex quota. At least I don’t think he did.”

“So you haven’t had sex with him at all yet? That’s probably a good thing. He showed his true colors.”

Lia hunches her shoulders and her cheeks turn bright pink. Does that mean it’s more complicated than she’s saying? Does that mean… oh fuck. I don’t want to know. I don’t need to know. I shouldn’t know. And yet I ask.

“Was he planning on being your first?”

She bites her lip and turns away to start unloading things out of the fridge. “I’m sorry about the mixup. I could just go to Mom’s house. I just wanted a place where I knew I wouldn’t run into him. He lives in the same building that I do.”

“I’ll talk to your mom, find out what happened. I remember missing a call from Kim, but I could have sworn it was last week, not this week. And she didn’t leave a message, so I assumed it wasn’t important.

By the time the guys have finished unloading everything and we get it all put away, lunch is ready. Lia and I are the only ones who eat the salad, but between the four of us, we finish off the pasta.

When lunch is over, Dean and Steve are ready to take the boat out for a test drive since it’s too late to fish. I ask Lia if she wants to come with us, but she declines.

As we take the cover off the boat, I don’t feel right about leaving Lia. So I give the keys to Steve and tell him that Dean can’t drive the boat or the car if he has even one beer. Once they’re on their way, I head back inside the cabin to check on Lia.

When I find the house empty, I open the sliding glass door, step onto the deck that faces the lake, and close the screen door behind me to let the cool evening air inside.

Lia’s on one of the loungers. She’s lying on her stomach, headphones on, bobbing her head to whatever she’s listening to.

Her shorts have ridden up to expose the bottom half of her ass and when she starts shifting her hips in time to the music in her headphones. I’m once again hard as a rock. I probably should have just gone fishing with the guys and let her be. Never in a million years did I think I’d be lusting after Kim’s daughter.

I reach down to adjust my dick and, of course, that’s when Lia rolls over. She jumps and lets out a little scream, but it’s her gaze on my crotch that has us both frozen. Then she licks her lips and I groan. I’m glad she can’t hear me.

I kneel beside her and push her headphones off her head. “I think maybe you should cover yourself a little more while you’re here.”

“Because it’s making you hard?” She blurts, then covers her face with her hands.

“I know I can hold myself back. I can’t make that promise for Steve or Dean, especially with them out on the boat with a case of beer.”

“Hold yourself back?”
