It’s been years since Stefan has joined us for the Haddon Christmas Eve celebration. Reminds me of the old days. This should be interesting. Maybe he can keep my brother from being an ass.

“Stefan, you know nothing about me.” I grab two beers and pop the top off mine, and hand him his. “Here’s to a drama free night.”

“Not likely if Hendrix doesn’t shut the hell up about the company. He wanted me to play mediator, but he’s digging his own damn grave. Honestly, I’m proud of your dad for not already telling him off.”

He leans against the fridge, and I swear the shirt is going to rip, but it holds its own. God, I wish I was that shirt.

“Here’s to old times.”

Our bottles clink, and he eyes me as I take a swig. Stefan has been in my life forever, and when he left Grapevine for college, I never imagined he would come back, let alone show up to our Christmas dinner. Isn’t he sick of dealing with Hendrix on a business level? Why would he want to come hang out here over his holiday vacation? If I were him, I would want to get as far away as possible.

“Mediator, huh? Well then you better get out there instead of standing in here talking to me.” I walk away and turn back just fast enough to see him checking out my ass. All the squats are paying off. Stefan is one of those that every girl wanted to be with him in high school. Usually, men like peak during their teenage years and then go downhill as they get older, but he has only gotten sexier. How is that even possible? He has a slight greyish tint coming into his beard which just amplifies the, “I want to fuck you” side of me.

Stefan trots out after me, but remains in the hallway for a bit. He is probably just enjoying watching the shitshow. Leslie is a wreck, and trying to change the subject, but Hendrix is willing to budge. Right now, Noah is giving him all his attention and that’s exactly what he wants. Why doesn’t he just get up and walk away? I get he wants to make a good impression on our brother, but we won’t blame him. I would have left thirty-minutes ago.

I sit next to Leslie, and lean in. “So, how long has that being going on?”

“Almost an hour. He’s never going to agree to come back after this.”

My sister isn’t like me. I could care less what anyone thinks of me, but she does. I’m the promiscuous type, and she is more of the girl you see in the background during movies. Noah was her first one-night stand, but I’m not sure it can even be called that since they ended up getting together anyway. Oh, and he was her professor. Long story.

Stefan takes a seat next to me, even though there are spots next to my parents on the sectional. The hint of sandalwood isn’t overpowering, but just enough. My eyes close taking it in. He doesn’t notice, but his back is angled toward me. He smells like a God.

Hendrix finally gets up and moves over to Stefan, giving Leslie the option to go sit by her boyfriend, and save him from getting stuck in another lecture from our brother. Let’s hope he doesn’t run for the hills after tonight. Leslie knows better. This isn’t the right time to bring someone new around. Especially, with Hendrix being in town.

Angela starts in on Hendrix.

“You must have plenty of women dying to marry you now. When do we get to meet your girlfriend? You have one, right?”

We both know that he is not looking for anything serious. She must just be trying to piss him off on purpose, but why? Payback for giving her boyfriend a night he’ll never forget. Noah won’t ever want Hendrix to visit after tonight. He would sit on their couch and talk shop until he’s blue in the face.

He laughs. “We both know I’m not the marrying type. You’ll never meet any girlfriends of mine.”

Hendrix has been saying that since he was sixteen. I don’t believe anyone when they say they aren’t long-term relationship material, but Hendrix is the kicker. He has never had a serious relationship, matter of fact, I think the longest relationship he has ever had was like a couple weeks, and then he got bored. He is going to be a single bachelor until the day he dies.

Stefan stands up, takes a swig of his beer, and points at Stefan. “He had two women that refused to leave his house after a one-night-stand in the last three months. If he isn’t careful, he might have to be the marrying type.”

Hendrix’s hands go up in the air. “Don’t be telling my business. And for the record, you like bringing home girls just as much as I do.”

He looks at me and then laughs. “They know I’m not looking for anything serious. I’m also careful about who I choose. They know that I’m focused on building our company, and just needing something casual.”

So, Stefan is a womanizer, too? God damnit. Okay, so I can’t be mad, because technically I am the type that likes one-night stands, too, but it irks me nonetheless. He will never have trouble finding women willing to go home with him. I mean, when you look like him, and have money, women are going to flock. I wish I could be one of those women, but Hendrix would never allow it. It still doesn’t stop me from wondering when it will be my turn?
