I raised an eyebrow when one of them took a step toward me and lifted his hand as if he was going to grab me. I might only be half gryphon, but I'd still rip his throat out if he touched me.

The other guard waved his hand toward the double doors. "Prince Vitali is waiting for you."

Of course he was.

I strode into the suite as if I owned the place. I'd been to enough high society gatherings to know how to play the game. Never show weakness. Never let anyone know how nervous you were. Certainly never let them know you were seconds from taking someone's head off.

The sexy man I hadn't been able to stop thinking about was seated on a sofa in the living room area looking over a stack of papers. As soon as he saw me, he put the papers down and stood.

"Where's Pierre?" I asked before he could utter a single word.

His surprise was evident in the slight widening of his eyes. I doubted anyone else saw it but me, but I was looking at him as intently as I could, drinking in every feature.

He looked as good now as he had in that bathroom.

Fucker.

"You...know about your father's lover?"

I seethed at that word. "Pierre is so much more than my father's lover." And I didn't feel like explaining it to this asshole. "Where is he?"

Prince Vitali frowned, but he snapped his finger to the guard who stood behind me. "Bring in our guest."

Only one of the guards left. I knew the other one was here to ensure the prince's safety, and well he should. I was one word away from attacking the guy.

How dare he stick his nose into something he knew nothing about and decide that my father and Pierre didn't deserve to be together.

Who did he think he was?

"René—"

"I understand that you're a prince and you have my deepest respect for your position, but you're an ass."

I ignored the soft gasp behind me.

"What right do you have sticking your nose in someone else's life?" I snapped, anger and disdain lacing my voice and making it harder than it usually was. "You're not a god. You don't get to decide who can be with who."

That was a real sticking point for me. After my parents discovered that they were mates, both of their families had fought to keep them apart simply because they were not of the same species. Then they had tried to keep my father and Pierre apart.

I wasn't particularly close to my relatives.

"Your father is being unfaithful to your mother. He's betraying her, and you," Prince Vitali pointed out. "Doesn't that bother you?"

"My father has been faithful to his mate for over twenty years." The prince just had his mates mixed up.

My mother was my father's mate, but Pierre was my father's true mate. Antoinette and Pierre were twins. The Fates had screwed up and mated my father to Antoinette when they should have mated him to Pierre.

My parents loved and cared for each other. They actually adored each other, but they were not true mates.

I just wasn't about to explain my family's dynamics to this jerk.

The prince sighed. "René, look. I know—"

I ignored the guard at my back and took a step forward. "You know nothing. If you did, you never would have taken Pierre from my father."

I turned when I heard a commotion behind me. The breath left my body when I spotted Pierre being escorted into the room. I quickly looked him over from head to toe, but he seemed uninjured even if he was a bit pale.

I imagined he needed blood. He was also probably terrified.
