"Are there any messages for me?"

Teresa glanced at the large message shelf behind her. The smile was still on her face when she looked back. "No, sir, no messages."

"Okay, thank you."

I waved as Alessandro started tugging me toward the elevator.

"How do you know that woman?"

I realized instantly from the growl in Alessandro's words that he was jealous. I was equal parts surprised and elated.

"I met her through her adorable five-year old daughter the last time my parents stayed here. Annabelle got lost, I found her, and returned her to the check-in counter where her frantic mother was waiting for her. I took them both out for a gelato afterwards."

"Oh."

I adored the soft flush that filled Alessandro's face.

"Not to worry, mate. She doesn't have the right equipment to attract me."

Alessandro's eyebrow cocked up before he chuckled. "She'd better not."

"Besides, she has a kid."

Alessandro's mouth opened. "You don't want kids?"

"Not, that's not it at all. That adorable five-year old comes complete with a fulltime dad."

Alessandro frowned. "What?"

"Teresa is married. Her husband, Marco, works in the kitchen."

"Oh."

"I love kids and hope to have a couple of my own one day. I don't do married people, especially married people with kids. I won't break up anyone's family. I know what that feels like."

"How?"

"My parents lost their family because they chose to go against family orders and mate, and while I love them for their loyalty and dedication to each other and to Pierre, I know they miss their families."

"I imagine they do, but I'm not sure I can do anything about that. I might be able to give my support to your father and Pierre being mated, but I can't force the minds of clan members to change. I can just force them to behave."

"No." I patted Alessandro's chest. "I didn't expect you to. I was just explaining things. My parents did what they thought they had to do, and their families did what they thought they had to do. I can't say either was wrong or right. I just know the pain and happiness my parents and Pierre have gone through over the years."

"Can I ask you something about all that?"

"Of course."

"How does your father's clan feel? He is the alpha male there after all. Do they disdain the choices your parents and Pierre made?"

I smiled as I thought of my birth clan. "Most of them have accepted it, but some have not. After my parents mated and my father became alpha, some left the clan, but that was mostly direct family members. The rest of the clan wanted my father in charge more than they cared about who he was mated to, especially considering my mother still acts as alpha mate."

"And Pierre is okay with that?"

"He is, actually. He never wanted to be alpha mate. He just wanted to be with my father. My mother is the official alpha mate of my birth clan. That's why she attends all those social functions with him."

"Yeah, that would make sense."

"At home, in the house they live in, there is an alpha bedroom and an alpha mate bedroom. They are connected by a door. They were actually there long before my parents even met. Mother lives in the alpha mate chambers and Father and Pierre live in the alpha chambers."
