I led René through the living room to the veranda. We were lucky in the fact that it overlooked a beautiful garden courtyard. We were also high enough up to not hear a lot of the street noise.

Once we were out on the veranda, I held a chair out for René and then walked around the small metal table and sat down across from him.

Paolo had outdone himself. There was a carafe of orange juice on the table along with a steaming pot of fresh coffee. On a cart next to the table was a tray of pastries, eggs, bacon, sausage, toast, and fresh fruit.

It may not be the fancy breakfast one would expect while vacationing in a luxury hotel, but it was what I liked. It would take time for Paolo to learn what René liked to eat.

"If there something not to your liking," Paolo said, "please let me know and I will arrange for it to be delivered from the kitchen downstairs."

René smiled up at him. "It looks great, Paolo. Thank you."

Paolo gave a bow of his head before turning and walking back into the penthouse.

"He's a little intense, isn't he?"

"He's the personal assistant and butler for the prince of gryphons," I said. "I think he's supposed to be intense."

René chuckled as he poured himself some coffee. "Can't argue with that."

I spooned some food onto my plate and then poured myself and René small glasses of juice. Coffee was needed to function. Juice was needed for us to be healthy.

"What would you like to do today?"

"What do you normally do when you're here?" René asked. "I'm supposed to be seeing how the other half lives, remember?"

My eyebrows lifted in surprise. "Well, usually I have a series of meetings scheduled throughout the day and then dinner with one of the clan alphas in the evening or a cocktail party or some such nonsense."

"Then that's what we will do. You should go about your day like normal. I'll just follow along. Besides, I want to see what it is that you do. I've heard about the position of prince, of course, but I don't think I really have any idea what it is you actually do."

"Deal with idiots mostly."

I still had a few that I needed to deal with, but I was kind of hoping to spare René that drama driven show. I didn't want him anywhere around men like Alpha Ramirez.

"Do you ever do anything exciting?" René asked.

"Uh..." I had to think about that one.

René's eyebrows lifted after I was silent for several moments. "Really?"

"Well, I mean, yes, there are times when it's exciting, but they are kind of few and far between."

"Then what do you do?"

"Most of what I do is like administrative stuff, making sure the clans are running well, obeying the laws set down by our council and the paranormal council, as well as the human laws, and that they are not exposing us to those humans."

"Give me an example."

"Okay, well, when I heard you'd been attacked I was in a meeting with a couple of alphas. One of them was asking me for money for his clan. That isn't so unusual. The problem was, he and his clan are living in the lap of luxury, and they refuse to go out and get jobs to support that lifestyle. They wanted me to fund it."

René snorted as he reached for his coffee. "I hate people like that."

I wasn't a fan either.

"So, what did you do?"

"I gave Alpha Santos and those in his clan of working age ninety days to find jobs or I would be coming down there and dealing with the situation personally, and he really doesn't want that."

René chuckled and took a sip of his coffee. Once he set the cup down on the table, he smirked at me. "It's kind of sexy when you go all alpha fierce."
