"Father, I've been with Alessandro since yesterday afternoon when I was attacked and he came to the hospital for me."
"You were attacked?" René's mother shouted.
"I'm fine, Mother, I promise, and we'll talk about that in a minute. Tell me what's going on with Uncle Pierre."
"He's gone," Alpha Castellano whispered as he seemed to kind of fold in on himself.
"Gone gone?" René asked. "Or did he just go out shopping or something?"
"Men came for him," the alpha mate said as she wrapped an arm around her mate. "Men dressed like your guards, Prince Vitali."
"My men didn't take him," I said quickly as I glanced at René's father. "Now that I know Pierre is your true mate, I would never separate you two."
"If you didn't take him, then who did?" the man asked. "Who has my Pierre?"
"I don't know," I replied, "but I will, and when I find them, they will pay for causing my mate and his family pain. I swear this to you as prince of the gryphons."
It was a solemn vow, one I would not break.
I owed them this.
Chapter Fourteen
~ René ~
When Alessandro started barking out orders to Tashi as he headed back inside the penthouse, I hurried over to my parents and hugged them both. "Alessandro will find Pierre."
I knew he would even without his vow.
"He is really your true mate, René?" my mother asked.
I nodded. "He is, and we've already claimed each other so..." There was no way to change it now. I just hoped my parents accepted my mate. I couldn't give him up.
"He's really sorry for what he did. Like he said, he thought Father and Pierre were just lovers and he wanted to save me the pain of finding out my father was being unfaithful to my mother. Once he knew the truth, he was immediately sorry."
"Are you sure he didn't take Pierre?" my father asked. "The men that took him were dressed like the prince's guards."
"I'm positive. Like I said, he's been with me since yesterday afternoon when I was attacked."
"What was that all about?" Mother asked. "Someone attacked you?"
"Someone hit me over the head when I got back to my loft after I left you and then proceeded to beat me up. Alessandro's guards stopped whoever it was and then drove me to the hospital."
"Who was it?"
I shrugged. "We don't know. They got away when the guards were seeing to me, but Alessandro has someone looking into it. What we do know is that they placed several cameras throughout my loft."
"Cameras?" My father's head snapped up. "Someone put cameras in your loft?"
"Yes."
"Why?"
I sighed. "We don't know that either."
But it was starting to look as if someone was after my family.
"Father, has there been any trouble back home or with the families?" I asked.
