Instead of comforting my father, my attention was drawn inside the penthouse by loud voices raised in anger. Worried that it might be something having to do with Pierre, I directed my parents to stay on the veranda and hurried inside.

I was confused by the sight of Paolo trying to stop two men I'd never seen before from coming into the penthouse. He was standing in front of them pointing to the elevator doors.

"You need to leave," Paolo said sternly. I doubted the man ever raised his voice. He was too proper for that. "You do not have an appointment."

I didn't think these guys cared.

One of them, a rather tall muscular fellow, was pushing at Paolo as if trying to get him out of the way. The other one, a much shorter and stouter man, was shouting at Paolo to get out of his way.

When the tall man drew back his fist, I quickly stepped forward. "That is enough!"

Utter silence met my words.

"Paolo, please go let the prince know I need him in the foyer."

Paolo shot the two men a worried look before nodding to me. "Of course, sir."

Once Paolo hurried off, I crossed my arms and faced both men. "Can I help you?"

The shorter of the two men looked me up and down and then basically dismissed me. "I am here to see Prince Vitali. You can tell him I am waiting. And hurry the hell up. I don't have all day."

I hated people like this. If I were not basically representing my mate, I would have punched that man straight in the face. Unfortunately, I was, so I had to play nice.

Just not too nice.

"You're going to be waiting a long time if you don't tell me who you are and why you are here."

The man's eyes narrowed and anger infused his face by way of a dark flush. "Look here, you little ingrate. I don't know who you think you are, but I am Alpha Ramirez and I—"

"Great, now that we've established who you are, why don't you tell me why you are here?"

"Get me the prince and get him now!"

I almost rolled my eyes. "Try again."

"You don't get to talk to me like this." The man was almost purple. "Do you know who I am? You—"

"You said your name was Alpha Ramirez, unless you were lying." I cocked my head. "Were you lying?" So, okay. I was trying to piss the man off, but he had pissed me off first. He deserved it.

The guy was an ass.

"I am Alpha Ramirez!" the man shouted, complete with foot stomp.

I found it amusing, but tried to keep my chuckle to myself.

It wasn't easy.

"I'm afraid Prince Vitali is a very busy man. Without an appointment..." I shrugged as if it meant nothing to me, and it really didn't. This guy could take a long walk off a short pier for all I cared. "Maybe, if you leave your name and number with me, I can arrange something."

Or not.

"Terrance," the man snapped, "get this idiot out of my face."

The taller man—I assumed his name was Terrance—took a step toward me. I've dealt with a lot of people over the years, some good and some bad. I was not intimidated.

I leveled a glare at him when he reached for me. "Touch me and it will be the last thing you ever do."

"He's right." There was a deep rumbling growl behind me. "Touch him and you will die."
